Genre: Um...? Romance?
Published: August 2012
Series: Black Knight Inc (Bk1)
Date Read: 26 February 2013
My Rating: 7/10
Okay, so this is not something I would ordinarily have picked for myself, so bear with me please, I'm not entirely sure of how to go about this one.
I picked this up on one of the many Freebie sites online, Bookbub or Pixel or... one of those! And the blurb caught my attention -
"Black Knights Inc.--Behind the facade of their tricked-out motorcycle shop is an elite special ops team assigned the jobs too hot for anyone else to handle.
Hold On Tight...
Ex-Marine Nate "Ghost" Weller is an expert at keeping his cool--and his distance--which makes him one hell of a sniper. It's also how he keeps his feelings for Ali Morgan in check. Sweet, sexy Ali has always revved his engine, but she's his best friend's baby sister...and totally off limits.
Rough Road Ahead
Ali's never seen anything sexier than Nate Weller straddling his custom Harley--or the flash of danger in his eyes when she tells him she's in trouble. First something happened to her brother, and now she's become the target of a nasty international organization. With Nate, her life is in the most capable hands possible--but her heart is another story altogether."
Special ops + Custom Motorcycles - I was intrigued!
Despite it being an obvious romance novel.
Needless to say, its been sitting in my TBR pile for some time now!
And yet... I quite enjoyed it! :P
The characters weren't totally overdone or unbelievable, it had a pretty good plot aside from the relationship aspect and I gotta give it to the ex-mathematician - The lady knows how to get your blood pumpin'!
I'm not entirely sure Hell on Wheels belongs entirely in the romance genre, as the special ops plot is actually pretty well written (In my opinion at any rate) - I wouldn't quite class it up there with Clancy or McNab - But its not entirely implausible either.
Plus - did I mention Custom Motorcycles?? LOL
I would compare it more to... say, something similar to the TV series, THE UNIT - but with a little more emphasis on the relationship/18+ material.
I like that there wasn't the "they just met, fell in love... and bed together"
There was history between the characters.
I also liked that the female characters aren't all doe-eyed and docile, though in this case, our lady love has a somewhat 'temperamental' stomach - which amused the hell outta me!
Throw in some pop-culture references, and you have yourself a rather intriguing read!!
I'm thinking of hunting down the rest of this series, even if it is outside my usual genre!
