I was surprised to see that we didn't have a thread open for this book yet! Has anyone read it? I have practically read it in one day.

Dan (dan2345) | 170 comments Joe Hill is Stephen King's son, correct?

Stefan Yates (stefan31) | 117 comments Dan wrote: "Joe Hill is Stephen King's son, correct?"

That is correct. His full name is Joe Hillstrom King.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments That's interesting I'll have check out his book.

Stefan Yates (stefan31) | 117 comments I have found both of Hill's novels and his short story collection to be very good. He has another novel coming out soon.

Also, for those interested, King's other son Owen has a novel scheduled for release in March.

Thanks for the tip.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Speaking of NOS4A2 - you can pre-order a signed copy here: http://www.waterstreetbooks.com/get-j...

Or, if you'll be in the Long Island area on May 1st, he'll be signing at Book Revue. http://bookrevue.com/JoeHill2013.html

Stepheny (stephenythereallifeanniewilkes) I listened to this one on audio and was not a fan. I really didn't like the narrator though. I am going to go back and read a physical copy of the book eventually because I think it might actually be a good book- definitely an interesting concept- but was so distracted by how much I disliked the narrator that I think I missed most of the story. I am also very glad to know they are making it into a movie and that Dan Radcliffe is playing Ig Parish! :) Sorry,I am not only a King fan but a HUGE Potter-head! ;)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm interested to see how Dan Radcliffe will do as Ig. I'm not much of a fan of the HP movies (TOO many changes from the books, BAH!) but I really liked him in The Woman in Black, so I think he'll do well.

Should be interesting. :D

haha!
I struggled with the movies because I have such a passion for the books, but I have just grown to accept that they are just two different medias and try to look at them that way! LOL But I think Dan Radcliffe is great and think he will do an awesome job as Ig Parish!I think he LOOKS the part!

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments I loved Dan Ratcliffe in the Harry Potter movies.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) He was good in them, but I just didn't like the movies themselves. They just made so many changes that it irked me too much and too often to enjoy them.

Ranty spoiler for the 7th movie: (view spoiler)

It's just those kinds of things that make me too annoyed to enjoy them. >_<

Hhaha. I feel totally the same way. BUT I do want to apologize to the creator of this discussion-Angie. LOL Sorry that this has turned into a Harry Potter discussion. I am just really excited he was the one cast for Ig Parish! I will stop now! LOL

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ehh, that's just how threads go 'round here. :P

Yes I really enjoyed it. Also recommend Heart shaped box which really creeped me out.

Trish (zianeu) Oh, my gosh, the end! Well, Ig's end[By Ig's end, I mean after we fade on him, that there are more scenes. The tie ups for the other characters didn't compel me as much.]! Got me in the feels. The whole story kind of haunted me with the levels and dark in Ig and his friend (the schmuck, who I can not now remember the name of [major brainfart])! I'm mildly inarticulate, but my reactions were kind of visceral.

I loved this book... I was happy... sad... angry... upset.. and then fulfilled by the end. I don't know if maybe the narration in the audiobook was just distracting. I like how it read in the book. I really enjoyed the flash backs to the other people's stories. I read this book in pretty much two days. Yesterday I read it for 6 hours straight. I too am excited about seeing Radcliffe in this movie. I think he did a fantastic job in the Woman in Black. Personally I think that kid ended up being an amazing actor and should go far beyond his Potter years. (I too am a Potter head).

(view spoiler)

I loved this book!

Eloise Kindred | 21 comments I loved Heart Shaped Box but Horns didn't really do it for me. Thought he should've spent more time focussing on Ig's little horn problem instead of constant flashbacks to the past. it was a good idea, seemed a bit wasted to me. Plus the ending wasn't great. Well written though.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) But his horn problem was directly related to his past; it's why they were there.

Stepheny (stephenythereallifeanniewilkes) I am definitely going to have to go back and reread it. LOL I do not recommend the audio version- that is for sure! I did love the concept of the book and thought it made for an interesting story. But I think I just missed out on what happened in the end!!

Joe Hill is going on a book tour for his new book... so if anyone is interested you can check and see if there will be a book signing near you! !

Rachael I am a little behind. Just now reading this book and i find it hilarious. I am laughing. I must have a sick sense of humor. Pushing his grandmother down the hill in her wheelchair. Omg!!! I am cracking up. Loving this book.

I thought the book was really funny, also. I think he has his father's sense of humor.

Trish (zianeu) There was a LOT of humor, I admit I laughed. Ig's personal story, though, was kind of bittersweet.

I was really expecting more of the dark humor than I got.

Kirstie | 5 comments I'm a bit late to the party but I just picked this book up yesterday in poundland of all places ... And I really enjoyed it. Even after having a quick look on the internet about the plot and reading the blurb, I wasn't expecting the book to go the way it did. I thought the flash back chapters were needed, but, not all that interesting. I wanted to know more about Ig, and what was going on in the present.
I'm looking forward to the film and seeing Daniel Radcliffe play out Ig.

David Price | 2 comments Only actually read this the other day and I was pleasantly surprised on how good it was! Good characters and a steady rhythm to the storyline. (Even the 'flashbacks'), love the occasional 'nods' to his fathers work too, especially the DT ones! (Numbers adding to 19, Horn/Tower ect), all in all, a very good read.

Dave (big_daddy_d) As a life-long comic fan I've enjoyed the graphic novels. It's nice to have Roland's past fleshed out even more. The art work is not my favorite, a bit rough around the edges for me.

I read it as soon as it was published and I loved it. But I didn't know that Hill was King's son. Wow! What a family!!

Alondra Miller Thinking about reading this one next month. So far, I am loving what I have read so far, from Mr Hill.

NOS4A2 was pretty darned awesome :D

I'd like to see this movie but is hasn't been released in America yet. :( It's been out forever though.

Malina | 304 comments I just finished reading Horns yesterday and I really enjoyed it, I liked the flashbacks and the humor in it.

Rakisha (cutestlilbookworm) | 4 comments Horns was really good, even though at one point I found it a little sluggish to get throuhg, but NOS4A2...LOVED IT, especially the audiobook version.

Kenneth McKinley | 277 comments Rakisha wrote: "Horns was really good, even though at one point I found it a little sluggish to get throuhg, but NOS4A2...LOVED IT, especially the audiobook version."

I found Horns to be the same way. I was loving Igs character when his horns were kicking in. But was really disappointed that it didn't continue down that path. By the time I was done, I really didn't care what happened to him. I thought his character got less likable and more pathetic as the story unfurled. It was still a good read.

Couldn't agree more!

Nickronomicon | 23 comments I really liked this book. I'm a little slow but just the other day I was thinking about this.....did anyone else make the connection between Ig growing up as the son of famous rich parents, and Joe Hill is also the son of famous rich parents. Shed a new light on the story....?

Kenneth McKinley | 277 comments Nick wrote: "I really liked this book. I'm a little slow but just the other day I was thinking about this.....did anyone else make the connection between Ig growing up as the son of famous rich parents, and Joe..."

Obviously, I'm slower than you Nick. I didn't catch that one. But, I can see it being put in there on purpose. Joe loves to tie connections into his stories. So does Stephen, for that matter.

★ Liane ★ (twistdsky) Hi can anyone give me a free ebook of Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box? I want to read this but my copy is incomplete. Thank you!

Cindy | 1 comments I read Horns a few months ago & I loved it! Can't wait to read Heart-Shaped Box & NOS4A2 :)

Kenneth McKinley | 277 comments MJ wrote: "I just finished this last night. It was a really good story. Also read Heart Shaped Box and that was good as well."

I was curious as to what you thought of the character Ig as the story went on?

Kenneth McKinley | 277 comments I really liked him at first when he was using the horns for mischief and more. Then I thought his character became more and more pathetic as he learned what was really going on. By the end, I really didn't care what happened to him. Joe Hill is a great writer. No doubt. I've enjoyed many of his stories. I simply wanted Ig's character to use his horns to get even with the people that did him wrong. Did you feel that way at all or did you like the turn his character took?

Shawn Thornton (shawntsxs) | 15 comments I loved all of joe hill's books so far. Horn's is my favourite. Really enjoyed it.

Marjo Loyens (marjo56) | 60 comments I felt exactly the same. I really detested Ig by the end of the book!
