Please include your nominations. If you're not sure where to start, check the bookshelf. If you can't find the book there include it in the thread anyway. Include both the book the author!

The nominations will end on March 07th.

We are asking for volunteers who are willing and interested in leading the discussion of the books that get selected. I appreciate if one among the readers is willing to be the discussion leader. Silver and I don't always read all the books read by the group and we'd appreciate the support.

So please post here if you have an interest in leading the discussion of the book of your choice. And if you have any questions about leading the discussion, don't hesitate to ask.

message 4: by Fatin (new)

Fatin (fatinnawaz) | 5 comments Could we do Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky? Or anything else by him, really. I wanted to read The Brothers Karamazov, and it isn't on the group's read shelf, so maybe that?

Michelle Eagles | 5 comments There is a huge layer of Russian Soviet literature that is practically unknown for English speakers.
For example, "Ethernal Call" (http://lib.rus.ec/a/30184) or "Shadows at Noon"
(http://lib.rus.ec/b/70562) by Anatoly Ivanov.

This looks very strange for ex-Soviet people when someone considers Soviet life just by Shalamov or Solzhenitsyn.

Michelle Eagles | 5 comments Or, if Soviet literature is unappropriate, read
The Short Stories by Arkady Averchenko (http://lib.rus.ec/a/17382), they are fun.

Aloha | 5 comments Hi, I am new to the group and this is my first time posting. One of my goals for this year is to read anything I can find by Nabokov. I have a lot of his work and am completing my collection.

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 10 comments I would happily encourage The Brothers Karamazov (Fyodor Dostoyevsky) as I plan to read that this year.

I'm also planning to read Roadside Picnic (Arkady Strugatsky) this year if a classic sci-fi read is an acceptable nomination.

I just want to thank everyone for stopping by. I included all the novels which I could find with translations here at goodreads, the ones we haven't read yet. The polls are up now.

Aloha wrote: "Is it okay to nominate a biography of the writer? If so, I'd like to nominate Vladimir Nabokov: The American Years."

Sorry Aloha, I didn't include this because it is the second book of the biography, I don't think it'll work without reading the first one. :)

message 20: by Lemar (new)

Lemar | 10 comments I throw in with The Brothers Karamazov too. Having just finished Crime and Punishment I'm looking forward to reading more and getting the thoughts of the group to enrich the experience.
