I am currently reading In search of the blue tiger, by Robert Power, and enjoying the positive image of the librarian character in this quirky "coming of age" story.
I generally like to read a variety of genres. My favourite author is often the writer of my current book.

Robert Nguyen | 9 comments I'm currently reading The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien, I'm reading this because its a classic and I've seen the first Part of the film directed by Peter Jackson. I can't wait till the sequel of this prequel series to the orginal Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
I genreally read fantasy, horror, sci-fi, mystery, action and adventure.
My favourite author is Darren Shan for his amazing book series of The Demonata :D

Thanks Rob, great to have you join the 10B reading group. I think The Hobbit is one of those classic books we should all read. Tolkein has an amazing ability to create very realistic fantasy worlds. I remember Lord of the rings being the biggest book I have ever read - it was such a challeng to start, and yet so readable that, surprisingly, it didn't take anywhere near as long to read as I expected. Robert Nguyen | 9 comments Shame the other guys haven't caught on yet! I can imagine how it'd be a hard read at first but I'm just motivated by the film - all the characters and settings I've already seen so it makes the world within the book so much more interesting :) I'll try and get some of my other classmates to post their self introductions through Facebook :D

thet would be great Rob, as you can see how easy it is to share your thoughts about books and reading.

Dominic Nguyen | 21 comments Hi, Sorry for catching on so late, but here I am!

At the moment, I'm not a very avid reader. However, I am trying to start reading the Hunger Games series, since it has been recommended to me by so many of my peers, and I figured that it would be a good series to perhaps help me read a bit more frequently.

My favourite genre to read from is crime and mystery, since you cannot be prepared for the twists and turns that a good crime book may offer.

My favourite author is J.K. Rowling, and will always be as she was the reason I started reading in the first place!

I really enjoyed The Hunger Games - lots of action combined with likeable and believable characters. I hope you enjoy it too.

Richard Li | 2 comments I enjoy reading, especially books that are factual or have an element of mystery, adventure or thrills in them. I just finished reading Scarecrow by Matthew Reily. I found it quite enjoyable, but i thought that it was not as well written as his earlier books. My favourite author is still Roald Dalh as i found his stories and experiences very interesting. I prefer to read an actual book rather than an ebook

Charlie | 3 comments I am currently reading "A wise mans fear" by Patrick Rothfuss, i find it am inlighttening book yet some what tediace as it contains a large and i believe unnecasery amount of description. I read mainly fantasy books such as lord of the rings and the robin hob books though I also enjoy crime and mystery such as Sherlock Holmes.

Mickey Vo | 6 comments Hi, I'm currently reading the Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. I really like this book so far because the author always changes from one character's perspective to another. I generally read fantasy, action, adventure and mythology books. My favourite author is Rick Riordan because all of his books are based on mythology and I'm planning to read all of his books.

James Brown | 2 comments I'm currently reading 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' by Oscar Wilde. It seems interesting so far, with an aspect of mystery to it. It is different to the books that I usually read, which are fantasy and adventure books, such as 'Eragon' by Christopher Paolini. I am trying to read more classics this year, after reading 'Animal Farm' and '1984' last year, and am intending to read 'The Great Gatsby' after this.

We spend so much time online during the day, I much prefer a print book to relax, and Roald Dahl is a very popular choice.

You might like to include that plan in your reading goal. Riordan's books have certainly revived interest in mythology for many of us.

Interesting choices, James, often these classics have been inspirational for many of our popular contemporary writers

Gishan (gishy) | 3 comments Hi, right now I'm finally reading the Hunger Games series, unexpected really basic characters and oddly-constructed love triangles, but the first book has proved me wrong. I like books, mainly crime, mystery, action, and true stories that construct characters on their psychology. I don't really like books with characters which I have no feelings for, or a book that doesn't have an interesting plot. I would like to finish all the books by Tom Clancy because of the way he shows you how everything happens and I would like to start reading a different variety of books much in the way of classics.

Gishan, like you I was pleasantly surprised by the engaging story & characters of The Hunger Games. Great that you want to try a variety of reading this year. Most well-known writers have spoken in interviews about their own reading preferences- you might want to find out if Tom Clancy had favourite books that influenced his writing

message 18: by Aksaran (new)

Aksaran | 15 comments Hi, I'm aksaran and I'm currently reading crossroads of twilight, the tenth book in the wheel of time series. The story itself is quite interesting, however Robert Jordan has the tendency to drag his novels out, so the characters spend a while sitting around and ebating whether they should do that or should do this. But when something starts happening it really is gripping. Read the series from the start. Book one and two are awesome.

message 19: by Aksaran (new)

Aksaran | 15 comments So my goal in terms of reading this year is to start reading a variety of genres. Usually I focus on fantasy so I hope to try a few classics this year, as boring as I usually find them

Martin, you might like to browse the “quick reads” shelf on my goodreads page for a shortish book to borrow. I’d recommend the amber amulet – read it in the holidays (just a couple of hours of reading), a simple story with lots of hidden elements which I found myself thinking about for days afterwards.

Aksaran, classics are not mandatory in this group. We want you to enjoy a range of good reading, but I might be able to help you to find some "not boring" classics

message 22: by Aksaran (new)

Aksaran | 15 comments yeah, well i enjoyed the kite runner very much, but when I read books like montana 1948, I found it extremely boring. Do you guys recommend other interesting clasics?

message 23: by Aksaran (new)

Aksaran | 15 comments Not only clasics, but I want to read a wider variety of genres In general, and I want to improve my writing ability.

Marie b | 35 comments Mod
Aksaran, I'll look out a selection of books that might interest you ready for our next session in the library. If you rate 20 or so books on your goodreads page, that will trigger their recommendation process also.

Jeffrey | 4 comments I would like to read a larger variety of books. I am a nove lover and some of my favourite books include the Elementals series, the Cherub series and Andy Mcnab.

message 26: by Matt (new)

Matt Son | 1 comments My general goal is to widen my range of reading books, and to be updated with everyone's progress. I particularly enjoy comedy, thrillers and mystery books. The intensity and the excitement is what i look for in a book.

message 27: by Yomitha (new)

Yomitha Navaratne | 5 comments Hi, I'm Yomitha. I really enjoy reading books but the problem is that once I'm into I can't stop until I finish it. This has been a problem for quite a while now and this year my reading has depreciated quite a bit. Sherlock Holmes has always a personal favourite of mine and I am currently reading the Bond books by Ian Fleming. My personal goal for this year is to maintain the same reading amount that I maintained last year.

I can sympathise with that. What about trying some short story compilations - that way you might be satisfied to cut out at the end of the story, but still be satisfied having had a good read.
