Sorry, no recommendations come to mind straight away. :)

Crystal Bryan | 305 comments There wasn't a thread, it was before we started the "i'd like to read about or by" discussions threads. So it was in some other thread like what are you reading, but not that one. lol.

Crystal Bryan | 305 comments Luckily, the group covers more than the name implies. A Land Remembered covers 1800's to the 1960's and counts as HF. :)

Marilee (hatchling) | 77 comments I recommend Shadow Country by Peter Matthiessen. Shadow Country by Peter Matthiessen , Shadow Country is the re-written [by PM] trilogy of Florida historical fiction books [Killing Mr. Watson, Bone by Bone and Lost Man's River] joined into one to get the whole story of Edgar J. Watson. He was a real plantation owner, one of the early settlers in the area now known as the Everglades. There are many rumors about his life and his death. This book is the fictionalized account of the myths and truths of the man and his family.

The book won the National Book Award. You'll never look at my home state of Florida, at least it's early history, quite the same way again once read.

Crystal Bryan | 305 comments Marilee, don't know how far back your family goes, but there's a Menorcan fest this weekend in St Augustine. They're cousins for me, as they married into the Spanish & English already living there.

The Minorcan Yoke and
Turnbull's Slaves by Donald H. Sullivan (no GR link found...)
