Recently, I was looking for a new measuring set of cups and spoons that did not have the numbers painted on them (SERIOUSLY! Painted numbers on something that is going to be washed a lot) and I have noticed that the 1/8 of a cup and tsp. are not included any longer in the sets, and it mystifies me as to why. 1/8 cup is 1 oz. and is a common measurement. I have a lot of recipes that call for 1/8 of a tsp. and I frequently use one or both if I need a liquid 1/4 cup/tsp. and a dry one as well. (I have a dual purpose set).

So why is the 1/8 missing? I know that 2 TBSP. is equal to 1/8 of a cup, but that may be in use as well,so the 1/8 of a cup is my go to measure.

I have noticed that some sets include a "coffee scoop" or "spoon" which is the renamed 1/8 of a cup, but most sets, expensive or cheap are forgoing it in general. This disturbs me as I wonder what other arbitrary measurements may vanish, such as the half tsp. or 1/2 TBSP. I want precise measurements when I bake, not dump and guess.

I am bothered by this and I hope to find out why this is happening.
