Brad (judekyle) | 1 comments Well, I've only just read A Wizard of Earthsea, so that's currently my favourite, but I am looking forward to the others.

message 6: by Rick (new)

Rick Mine would be A Wizard of Earthsea, followed closely by The Farthest Shore and then The Other Wind as a close third.

message 11: by Thyseldown (new)

Thyseldown | 2 comments Ursula Le Guin is my favorite author and if I say the Earthsea story ( six books ) is my favorite I would be remiss for not mentioning "The Word For World Is Forest", "The Left Hand Of Darkness", and " The Dispossessed". Each was my new favorite as I read them.

Rick I just finished The Daughter of Odren. Quite good, but A Wizard of Earthsea is still my favorite.

Does anyone know if there are any other Earthsea short stories like The Daughter of Odren that were not collected in either Tales from Earthsea or The Wind's Twelve Quarters?

Judy DUBOIS | 25 comments Tehanu. The death of Ogden is haunting and beautiful.

unevendesk I like The Farthest Shore the best. Its very haunting that image of Cobb holding out a light in the dark. I don't really like the other books. I respect what she was trying to do but I don't think they come off. I feel like that about most fantasy though. Is anyone else like that? Like, UKLG's SF is my favourite fiction ever but Earthsea is meh.

Amy | 3 comments I've met several other people who felt the same way you did. Personally, I love Earthsea and I love LeGuin's SciFi--but I do prefer the Ekumen/Hainish series over Earthsea, despite growing up on the latter. I'm also a big fan of her non-fiction...

Sofia Grigoriou (dreamhound) Oh its so hard to choose between Tombs of Atuan and Tehanu!! I love Tenar so much and I think those two books have a different slower more emotional feel than the rest of the series. They both feel less about adventure and more about introspection and feelings. I love all the Earthsea books too though!

message 19: by Judy (new)

Judy DUBOIS | 25 comments Why choose? Tenar, the brave young girl grew up and became Tenar the wise old woman, keeping all her courage. I admire everything Le Guin has written. Some books resonate more than others at different times, but they are all closely connected by the wise and wonderful heart of the woman who wrote them.
