Am I nuts or that giant statue we see in 'LaFleur' is clearly Anubis?

well, people have been debating this since we saw it. The three options are:
Anubis (but then the jackyl ears are missing)
Horus
the hippo looking god (cant remember the name)
I cant wait to find out who it is.

I havent known this! What an interesting mixture it would be if they add the egyptian mythology. By hippo looking god, do you mean Asiris?
well, next episode we go inside the temple!!!!!! and that will probably answer most of our questions
The statue's digital fx was kinda unconvincing (it looked totally fake) but you can see the ears, man. And the statue's holding an ankh. Anubis is holding an ankh.Just saw a picture of Horus in wikipedia and he too is holding an ankh (Also...Horus. Horace. Could this mean something??!? Probably not). Also the Eye of Horus is an important symbol in the mythology and eyes are important in Lost.
So the statue could also be that of Horus.
Now, Osiris, he isn't holding an ankh. But he is the god of afterlife. And he's Horus father.
The hippo-looking goddess is Taweret, or Taurt. The statue on the island looks nothing like her.
Do you know that the eye of Horus is the symbol of frankmassons, and also pictured on the US dollars?
Ahhhh. thats right, Taweret. Yeah, parts of the statue do look like her. Shes got an anhk in her hand as well, and that small little crown and ears like we see in the statue....
maybe its a mishmosh of all three of them. I think Taweret is the god of Fertility..... another link!

"What lies in the shadow of the statue?"
What do you think that meant? Was it Ilana's way of determining who was part of her group on the island.. like a password? Was she originally on the island and knows about the statue?
Discuss.....

God sometimes this show makes my head spin! Thanks for posting the pic of the statue, I had forgotten what it looked like and it was making me nuts. That totally creeps me out for some reason but then I get creeped out by the statues on Easter Island too-must be some past life phobia thing!
Al... I love how you are just jumping around in here, keeping us thinking as we move farther and farther away from the season finale.
God do I miss this show.
I am still not sold on the Richard being Egyptian thing, but then again, I am pretty stubborn :)

Now this might be a stretch, man, but does the Statue could possibly be inspired from the Jesus statue in Rio?
I think the statue absolutely has to do with fertility and the issues that happen with pregnant women on the island. Taweret was the Egyptian hippo goddess of fertility - more specifically it was seen as a deity of protection in pregnancy and childbirth (because of the aggression of female hippopotamus's in protecting their young). Because of this connection I think that at one time women could bear children normally on the island. But once the statue was destroyed - the top half anyway (for whatever reason) - that took away the protecting 'power' of that Egyptian goddess, leaving us where we are now with women not being able to deliver on the island if that is where they conceived. (If you remember - Ethan was born just fine on the island, but I believe the statue was still intact at that point)
