Haidi I read The Passage a year and a half ago, and have just finished The Twelve. I had this image in my head of how I imagined the Virals to look.

Then, the other night I was watching TV and I Am Legend with Will Smith came on. The Zombies/monsters or whatever you want to call them in this movie, look almost how I imagined the Virals to look, except that they didn't glow green.

Does anyone else think the same?

right with you......You should try watching the british movie The Descent

Mary Morita The thing is the virals fly, and the Zombies don't,
I imagine them like green glowing vampires.

Jenny I imagined them a vampire/werewolf looking hybrid with some bat-like features.

Mike Prosise I had the creatures from The Descent in my mind through multiple readings.

Mary Morita I just google it and yes!! they look exactly like that, even the pointy teeth. But whith wings.

Silicon I imagined similar to the above....maybe more Golem from Lord of the Rings, with sharper teeth.

Jeffery Moulton For me they were closer to the creatures in I Am Legend, just a lot beefier and green. But maybe that was because I'd read I am Legend and Other Stories just a few weeks before starting The Passage (not that there are a whole lot of similarities between Matheson's book and the Will Smith movie, but still). In fact, I thought there were a lot of interesting parallels between the two books. It almost felt like Cronin was writing a modern update of the earlier vampire story.

Shanna I didn't get the that virals had wings at all (but I could have missed it:) ), is it explicitly said that they have wings?

Sergio I see them more like Marcus Corvinus hybrid form in Underworld Evolution.

Shanna They can't be to out there because people are still able to recognise them, like when they recognised Maus' husband who's name escapes me now.

That's exactly what I was saying in my original post, that they look like the creatures from I Am Legend.

And I can't remember them being described with wings in the books anywhere? Were they?

I will look for it, Thanks!
