What are you reading over spring break? Write a book review of something you've picked up to read for fun or for other purposes. Tell us: (1) how did you rank it? (2) why? (2) who would you recommend read this?

Yunjae Lee | 1 comments I read the book, "Their Eyes were Watching God" by Zora Neal Hurston. The main character, an African American woman in her forties named Janie Crawford, tells the story of her life and journey to her best friend, Phoeby, who then will tell the story to the rest of the community. Her life has three major events, all corresponding to her three marriages. I would rate it a three out of ten. I personally don't like her use of the southern accent dialogue between the characters, it's racist, and the content didn't make sense. In her first two marriages, she is basically controlled by her husbands and never expresses herself. The moment when Janie's second husband is dying, she starts to pinpoint everything that he has done wrong to him. From her on forward, everything is twisted and it really bothers me.

Christy (christyisAWESOME) | 1 comments I read the Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner and it was probably the best thing I did over break. I've had The Maze Runner sitting in my room for the longest time and I don't know why I didn't start reading it earlier because it's freaking awesome.
I'm ranking the series as a whole as like a 4 or 5 out of 5 because, you know, my opinion changes day to day. It's full of action and it's super easy, which is a nice break from Beloved and all that other stuff. I kind of wish there was more to the falling action because I thought it was kind of abrupt, but it's still like amazing and I'm kind of obsessed.
I'd probably recommend this trilogy/series/whatever to people who like The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson stuff. Yea.
And if you're thinking of reading the trilogy, you need to have like all of the books next to you. Seriously.

Seungwon Hur | 1 comments I read the book Stay True: Short Stories for Strong Girls by Marilyn Singer . Marilyn Singer wasn't the one that wrote all the stories though, she just put a lot of short stories in a book. All the stories are about girls who are supposed to be strong and independent. I would rate this book a three out of five, just because there wasn't anything that stood out to me in the book. The stories weren't particularly great, and some of them just seemed a bit pointless to me. I wasn't completely bored while reading the book, but it wasn't too interesting, either. The topics were a little boring.
