2013 Hub Reading Challenge discussion

It took me forever to get around to reading this book. My mistake! This book is that rare gem that really gets into the head of a fourteen year-old and still keeps all plot threads and characterization at top level. I just loved Joe. Such a kid, and yet, as he realizes the depth of his need to avenge his mother's attack, he acts with the intensity and courage of a man. It's painful to read, but utterly absorbing. Thank you, Ms. Erdrich!

Loved it- so sad. Very engaging, full of action, ideas and realistic situations. I agree this was a wonderful read!

Round House was one of my favorite reads of 2012 and I was thrilled that it made the Alex list. Opened my eyes to Reservation law and I loved the character of Joe and his devotion to his mother. Beautiful writing!

I enjoyed this book, but I'm not sure that it is one with any teen appeal. The pace is very slow, and although the information about reservations is interesting, teens might find "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" more engrossing and appealing.
