Mark | 10 comments Hi I'm new to this and I'm looking for some good books for research on a book I would like to try and write. It's based on angels and demons I would like to get as much research to keep the story I have in mind to historical events scriptures book of Enoch and real names of angels and demons, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The main archangels are Raphael. Michael, Uriel, Azrael, and Gabriel
(General knowledge type thing so you don't have to cite it)
As for research books, I didn't do a lot for my own books. I pretty much used what I already knew from my family being christian and my grandmother being Jewish. I would reccomend using more of the Judiasm take on angels and demons. It is both more "accurate" and more detailed.
Try different books that have titles such as "the dictionary of angels" or "the dictionary of demons" They usually list numerous types of either and/or both creatures along with sepcific ones.
Go to the New Age section in a Barnes and Nobles as well. They usually have quite a few books on the subject

Mark | 10 comments Thanks for that ill get straight onto amazon now and get some books related to what you have recommended.
My only reason for research is I would like it to follow a line of some beliefs to maybe give it credibility to an extent that is
And to have real events in history and names to be written into the story its my first time writing so I'm hoping to do it right
That people from different genres will enjoy as it has its historical points from bibles or scriptures and has that fantasy element to it.

Marie Browne (mariebrowne) | 15 comments If you are looking at the Rabbinic traditions make sure you include Metatron who is actually classed as the highest of all angels. He is mentioned in the Babylonian Talmud and there is a vague reference to his origins from Enoch in Genesis. He's the one that got a symbolic beating from God due to being mistaken by Rabbi Elishah ben Abuyah for another 'power in heaven' just because he was sitting down and creating records. In a lot of the texts he is identified as 'Lesser YHWH' which goes a long way to proving how important he is.

Mark | 10 comments Any book you would recommend that would have a history of sorts as a point of reference. I have bought a few on amazon recently waiting eagerly for them to arrive
Enoch
Directory of demon names
Directory of angels
Book of fallen angels
Symbolism
Nephlin ( spelt wrong I'm sure)

Marie Browne (mariebrowne) | 15 comments I'd be tempted to dig a bit deeper. For symbolism and sigils, signs that sort of thing you could get 'The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin The Mage' Or 'The Key of Solomon the King' (Mathers) or 'The Goetia - The lesser key of Solomon the king (Crowley). Info books about the Nephilim are rare and it might be better to stick with the book of Enoch that details their origins. I think there was also a man called Graham Hancock who wrote about the origins of the Nephilim. The problem with the Nephilim is that they have been described as: Those that have fallen, those that are the product of a liaison between angels and human women, giants, a fighting race that came before humans and almost everything in between. You'll have trouble finding a definitive work on those particular beings which is why its probably best to read Enoch and make up your own mind.
