Goodreads being acquired by Amazon... It's a bit hard to swallow.

Is the stories connected to each other? Because I received "We didn't mean to go to sea" from my friend. Once I did some research about it, I found out that it is book 7 in series. Is there any problem reading the book 7 first? Thanks.
