I got it on audio and am really enjoying listening to it! I didn't think that I would like the political thriller type book but I've found myself hooked to this story and even found myself peeking at some more political thrillers to check out! Seems to be a great find!

Hi all--My name is Emily Lund and I will be leading the book discussion on The Fifth Assassin. I just ordered the book the other day on Amazon with my gift card so I haven't started it yet but I am looking forward to reading it. They do have new copies available to order on Amazon starting at $5.00.
I'm about halfway through this, and was just looking at the book to see how many pages it is since I'm listening to it on audio (which there's like 100 or so chapters?) and realized that this is book #2 in a series! Had I known that before, I may not have read it bc I'm super anal about order but it's not been TOO bad, but it makes sense why not everything makes sense!
I just joined the group in the middle of March, so this is the first read for me. I just started The Fifth Assassin last night and look forward to seeing how the plot plays out.
I'm quite enjoying it but not it makes sense why I didn't quite understand a few things! I thought I had just missed them!
Yea...it's would probably be quite helpful to have read this one first! I mean I am about halfway through it and am getting it okay, but I think it would have made it SOOOO much better knowing all the background!
In the prologue, the President is thinking about a time when he and the doctor smashed in the head of someone, and Clementine was attempting to blackmail the President. That all happened in the first book.
I like the references to the prior presidential assassinations. As well as being the son of Lincoln, Robert Todd Lincoln was present at the assassinations of both Garfield and McKinley (just an interest tidbit).
This is the first book The Inner Circle by Brad Meltzer.Didn't read Fifth Assassin with the group because I am yet to read the first one.

That is probably a good choice! Once it gets started you can kind of understand it, but once I read the first one, I am sure much more will click! I get it, but fuzzily!
I almost want to stop this one and listen to the first, but I don't know if I would have time to complete both before the time runs our so I suppose I'll finish this one and then go on to the first!
I downloaded this book on my Kindle. Looking forward to reading it. This will be my first book by this author.
I didn't read the first book but thought the pertinent details were easy enough to pick up. This book was about mildly interesting presidential assassination trivia. From that aspect it did well. But the plot was slow and the tension non-existent. And the flashbacks were painfully slow moving. Did he have an editor for this? Had they cut a third out, it would have at least moved along at least. Sorry, but I found it disappointing.
Peace, Seeley
I think I am rating it a 3/5! I started to listen to the first one and just couldn't get myself hyped up about it! I think I learned enough in the second book to not NEED to read the first book, although it would have been helpful to have read it first!
I really liked it, though I liked Book Of Lies more. I didn't read the first "Beecher" book but found enough clues to get the gist. I thought the story moved along well enough. There were a few editorial problems, but I don't remember what they were. Just suffice it to say I liked it. 4 out of 5, more than any Grisham book.
I also didn't read the first "Beecher" book and I agree with Albert there were enough clues to figure it out. I enjoyed the Beecher character he kinda acted like a librarian "Indiana Jones" but I didn't find it over the top for the story. The flashbacks only got distracting for me towards the end but I was guessing until the last chapter. I saw in the notes that the author put a code in the previous book and no one has broken it to claim the prize. I thought that was pretty cool . . . may have to check it out.
I didn't read the "Beecher" book either, but was still able to follow the story. I liked the references to the past presidential assisinations and how they were woven into the story. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, and like Shari, I'm thinking about looking for the code in the previous book.
Finally finished this book. To me this book was a tale of two halves. I had trouble getting into the story, but once I got about halfway through the book the story really interested me. Overall I enjoyed the book.
