You should post a new topic on the other bookclub; letting people know that there is a new bookclub. And if you would have the honour of choosing a few books from the past list of suggestions, just to get us started :D
I'd be willing to help moderate. I've got quite a broad taste in books so I should be able to come up with a dew suggestions as well.
I'd really like to see a mixture of fiction and non-fiction (maybe three fiction to every one non-fiction). I know there's a lot of classic fiction, and classical literature I've not read.I think the occasional true random selection would be good too. Maybe pick a random number (http://www.random.org) between 1 and 100,000 then match it to the Amazon sales rank list?
While I would like to keep up a 50 in 52 pace, I don't have the time to be able to do it. So is there a way to split up the group into a fast and slow reading groups? But I like Brevemikes idea of a random number choosing a book on Amazon
I love the idea of random number picks! I think that's how we should go. The idea of 3 weekly reads and one monthly really seems good as well. I'd like to start choosing books at the end of this week, since our last "official" read will be over, and hopefully I'll have some volunteers to help out with the choosing etc. by then! *hint, hint*
I'd love to participate in this but unfortunately I live in a small rural town with a teeny tiny Library so I don't have access to virtually any of the books I've seen people talking about, we typically have very mainstream "top of the list" books and loads of books on Christianity, we have like 50 different Bibles but only 6 history books -_-Unfortunately I also cannot afford to purchase books except for maybe once a year or so. So I would love it if any of you know of anyways to read books online for free.
With all of that said, I love reading and I hope that I can join all of you in your 50 in 52 challenge ^_^
*cough* Bay *cough* Pirate *cough* The *cough* *cough* *cough*Some libraries have ebook collections that you can access. Otherwise please arrange the three words above into something that resembles a popular website.
As a person who lives in a tiny, rural, southern town, I feel your pain!
Most libraries are part of a larger system, and will reserve a book for you and have it sent to your local branch. You could also try something like overdrive for ebooks that can be downloaded on an ereader or computer. For older (public domain) books, project guttenberg is my go-to website.

A couple of legal free ebook sites:University of Adelaide
The Open Library
Project Gutenberg
ManyBooks
If yoou can't find the book you need through your library's ebook collection or one of the above sites, maybe a member who owns a copy of the ebook you need would lend it to you once they've read it. It certainly can't hurt to post a request. :-)
There are ways to remove the DRM from ebooks. You can install a de-drm plugin on Calibre, very useful. Amazon has the audacity to charge more for ebooks than paperbacks sometimes, then still implement DRM. Disgusting, yet I still buy from them like the feeble minded consumer I am.
I think that most of us will have to skip a book here and there, because life happens! No worries. A few people have already asked if it's okay to just read the longer "one a month" book
I think that most of us will have to skip a book here and there, because life happens! No worries. A few people have already asked if it's okay to just read the longer "one a month" books, or skip certain books. Absolutely! This group is about fun, not homework. Read what, when, and how you want! As long as you enjoy it, we will too!

Once we have a few mods to help get this going, we will take book suggestions. We will choose randomly, which will hopefully get us all reading things we would normally not choose on our own.
So, if you would like to help moderate this community and help keep The Nation reading, give us a shout!
