We all have our loved books and special favorites. But what about the ones that just rubbed you the wrong way or were plain awful? I want your list of hated books, and a couple of lines about why you disliked them too!

I didn't like the book Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I thought I would love it. I loved the world building but the book moved a little too slow. The writing, though, was amazing.
Across the Universe is a book? Interesting! Tell me more.
At risk of being crucified...Childhood's End did nothing for me. Depressing and dull. Lacked characters I could care about.

Most of the expanded universe Star Wars novels where stuff happens in the beginning, the middle but the end just goes back to the oh-so-revered status quo. In the latter books where Han and Leia are in their mid 70s their pseudo-sexual interplay is like a rabid dog slowly chewing your ankle while you clean onions and have your head shaven with an axe...mildly speaking

That's a shame you didn't like it. I abslutely loved the movie so ended up buying the book but I haven't actually gotten to reading it yet.
What rubs you the wrong way about some of these books? In other threads I noticed Heinlein's
for example. I also saw lots of debate about the author
. Thoughts?

Just checking that none of my books are here! Whew! I have two books that I really hated, unfortunately I cannot recall the titles, lol! I guess I blanked them out. I'll try a search...
I know I'll get crap for this, but Hyperion. I also couldn't finish an Allister Reynolds book. . . figures now I can't recall the name.
I know Travis liked that book but I haven't read it yet!
I would love to hear more about why you guys hated these books. It's always fun to talk to fellow readers about what rubs us the wrong way. Me, I can't take a protagonist who is profoundly unlikeable without being compelling.
was like that, as well as being a bad description of autism. What are your thoughts on these books?

For me, it was Lies, Inc by Philip K. Dick. It had a lot of potential, but since the author died before he could finish it, they published it as a disconnected, confusing, and badly edited mash of bleh. Probably good for anyone who wants to read everything the author ever wrote, but really shitty for anyone else.
I've read that! I didn't realise it wasn't finished. Always wondered about the circular story...thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I really like PKD but it's nice to know the story behind that utterly confusing book.
Even though Heinlein is my favorite author, I'd have to say I truly dislike his book The Number of the Beast. The constantly changing point of view made it hard to follow the story, and I just couldn't connect with the characters.
God Emperor of Dune. I didn't care what happened to the worm. I just wanted him to shut up. Like, gag me with a novel.
I am so with you on Number of The Beast. It made nooooo sense.
Funnily enough, wasn't he behind 'Battlefield Earth'? Someone else was praising that book in the other thread!
I did not like H.G. Wells' "The Invisible Man." All the characters were selfish, unintelligent, knee-jerkers. I did not sympathize with any of them. None of them were heroes. All were villains to each other.
"Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley. I dislike the world they portrayed, and hated every single character. It took me forever to read this book, and I guarantee I will never pick it up again!
