Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) A place to discuss Rebellious Desire by Julie Garwood

Of all the dukes in England, Jered Marcus Benton, the Duke of Bradford, was the wealthiest, most handsome--and most arrogant. And of all London's ladies, he wanted the tender obedience of only one--Caroline Richmond.

She was a ravishing beauty from Boston, with a mysterious past and a fiery spirit. Drawn to the powerful duke, undeterred by his presumptuous airs, Caroline was determined to win his lasting love. But Bradford would bend to no woman--until a deadly intrigue drew them enticingly close. Now, united against a common enemy, they would discover the power of the magnificent attraction that brought them together...a desire born in danger, but destined to flame into love!

Jered is the only JG that I don't like. He just rubbed me the wrong way. Am I alone in that?

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) He wasn't my favorite but I did like him.

I think he must have given Caroline an ulcer. He almost gave me one as I read that book.

McGee Magoo Found this for .99 on Amazon for Kindle today. I don't know how long that will last, but I hope more of hers go on sale.

That's an awesome deal!

McGee Magoo I just re-read this...and it's been awhile since I went through Julie Garwood's HR's. I love her heroes. I like the arrogant and possessive type and JG writes them so well. But... as I get older, I'm finding that the annoying 18 year-old, virginal, gorgeous heroine just isn't good enough for these guys IMHO. Maybe it's because I am so far removed from being like them, 18 is a distant, distant memory. LOL. I'm going to go back and read all of JG's HR's and hope that I still love them as much as I used to.

Very true, Shannon. I certainly don't like them as much as I did when I was thirty... now that I'm looking at 60 in a few years.

McGee Magoo I think that's why I've been eating up the contemporary romances lately, when I used to be hardcore I-will-only-read-HR's. A lot of HR's have the young heroines.

Very, very true! I have to be in the right frame of mind for an 18 year old. LOL! Now-a-days, I tend to age the heroine in my mind. LOL!

Probably why I'm not such a hardcore HR reader as I used to be, too.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) I know what ya'll mean. That has been one of my gripes for many years - the age difference. I try not to let it bother me too much. 10 or 12 years is more tolerable than 15 plus, though. I try to think of the heroines as being more mature than we are nowadays. But I have noticed the more current HRs are aging the heroines. We often get widows or wallflower spinsters or bluestockings that are over 20 and even over 30.

McGee Magoo Exactly. It's why Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas is probably my favorite HR's

Wasn't he a few years younger than she was in that book?

McGee Magoo Yes! by 5 years! But I am down with a 25 year old hero. Any younger and I'm put off

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) You don't get many really young heroes in HR.
