I've heard much about this author. Opinions? Good place to start?

Heh heh. That's making your feelings plain.
:D
He does have a loyal audience though; and (I believe) several movie adaptations?
I myself and not a strong fan of his...to me he is somewhat pedestrian and conventional.
I consider him a 'run-of-the-mille' contemporary writer rather than a classic one. But he is well established, can't deny it.

I enjoy the wit and humor in his characters. My favorite was Charm School, and then a couple of the Corey books. Good beach reads.
