First off, I loved the book and couldn't stop resding. I thought it was a real page turner. That being said, I question the attitude of the characters. Killing a dog and killing people, no matter how psychotic would be do traumatic. These characters seemed to think little of ut. Losing an ear? I'd be terribly upset. Knowing someone had access to my house and writing on me while I slept would put me over the edge, but not her. I didn't buy that element of the story.

Eric, I wrote a review on this book, well basically it was on Laymons writing.
Laymon writes like your watching a B-rated horror movie. It's all about turning the pages. Not a lot of in depth character development, and characters tend to stray from their stereotype quite often.
Basically In The Dark is a study on greed and obsession.
I like the simple Laymon approach, it makes for a quick, easy read.

Eric,
The Traveling Vampire Show takes place in one day. Most of the action unfolds toward the end of the book. If you like stories like The Body by King, you may like this one. If your looking for a lot of action, well this one isnt quite like most of Laymons books. He's does a better job with charcater development here.
If you want to read an action packed , blood fest by Laymon I would say read One Rainy Night, Body Rides is a trip also.

Thank you for the recommendation, (one of the reason I came to Goodreads), will read One Rainy Night first and save Vampire Show for another time.
I'll second Kevin's One Rainy Night reco.My fave Laymon book so far.Eric, you'll probably be able to pick a used paperback cheap off Amazon, his books are usually easy enough to find.
Yep, you should be able to get a paper back for a couple bucks if you check out the sellers on Amazon.

It's typical Laymon, a fast paced page turner. It's not a perfect book, but it's what is to be expected of Laymon, flaws and all.
I love his straight forward style, he's all about turning the pages.

I just finished, and i can't help feeling a little disappointed!!!It's by no means a bad book, and i did enjoy it,but it was a bit too predictable for me,and even for a laymon book the characters actions were a bit too crazy.LOL!!!I know this book is held in such high regard by Laymon fans and i had been looking forward to it for some time so maybe i was expecting too much, although i will continue to read this great author in the future.

Yep, it's about par for Laymon.
I loved this book, perhaps because it was the book that introduced me to Laymon.
I will say this, Laymon isnt for evreyone. I always compare his style to B-rated horror movies, but it works for me.
