Linda (lwallin) | 5 comments I am a retired teacher who tutors part time, quilts part time, and loves to read and write. I host two web sites and two blogs, although I am not good about keeping a schedule. I am always looking for good books to read, and live close enough to attend a book club at your library, although I am a member of the Palatine Library.

Hi Linda! Thank you for stopping by and joining our group! Our last book club of the spring was on April 10, and after that we will be taking a little break to regroup for the fall. We are hoping to incorporate some kind of online community as well (so it's great that you are already on Goodreads!)

In the meantime, please send your name and contact information to us at reference@gepl.org. We'll contact you just as soon as we start up again.

If you need any recommendations, we are always more than happy to give them. We are closed this week (April 22-28) due to flooding, however you may reach us here on Goodreads, by email, by phone, by chat at our website, or in person when we open back up.

Thanks again for dropping by!

Hello all! My name is Mary Kay, and I am a librarian here at GEPL. I design public educational programming and staff tech training, and I also connect Glen Ellyn businesses to library resources through outreach services.

However, my first love is connecting people to BOOKS and stories -- and I'm excited about using this Goodreads Group to do so! So please -- join our group and let us know what you like to read below. We're excited to have you here!

(Oh yeah, my tastes run the gamut but a few of my favorite fiction authors include Ruth Rendell, Iris Murdoch, John Fowles, Muriel Spark, and Patricia Highsmith.)

Hi everyone! I'm Amy and I'm also a librarian at GEPL. I coordinate the public programming we have here, including the Lincoln exhibit and related events.

I love music and books! When I'm reading, I tend to get into a subject category and read a series of books on that particular topic. Right now I am in a biography/memoir fix. Who knows though... next time you see me I might be reading historical fiction!

Hi! I'm Susan, yet another librarian at GEPL. I'll read anything, as long as it tells a good story. Well, almost anything -- I'm not big on science fiction. I love books about topics and set in places that I know nothing about. I also listen to a lot of books. A good narrator with the right accent adds a lot to a story.

Linda (lwallin) | 5 comments @Susan. Try Childood's End by Arthur Clarke. My book group really like it.

Jackie | 4 comments Hello! I'm Jackie. After working in Circulation at GEPL for 14 years, I am now retired, but enjoy subbing on a frequent basis. I can go from Ayn Rand to Nora Roberts and back again. I'm also delving into some of the classics (although Hemingway still hasn't swayed me). I love audio books: they make dishwashing so much more delightful!

WElcome Jackie! I feel the same way about audiobooks and cleaning the house or taking road trips. Try giving The Golem and the Jinni a listen http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...

Ask me how to check it out digitally through eMediaLibrary!!!

Mary Kay

Jackie | 4 comments Actually I'm usually not into fantasy, but after reading the reviews, I think I might like to try The Golem and the Jinni. I couldn't find the title via audiobook, though. Might GEPL order it??

Absolutely! I'll submit a request for audio cd or play away for that one. Also, I'm happy to show you how to download the audio digital copy - it's available through our overdrive site now! The book is a great blend of fantasy, folklore, adventure, historical fiction, and romance. :) Something for everyone.

Jackie | 4 comments oops, I went to overdrive and didn't find the title. I download lots of audio books, so no problem there. I shall try again!

Hi Jackie! Try searching Jinni only. I had a hard time pulling it up with the full title, too.

Jackie | 4 comments Got it! Downloaded it. The reader is George Guidall=perfection! Can't wait to get started.

message 16: by Christina (new)

Christina (kwingofengland) | 1 comments Hi! I'm Christina, another librarian at GEPL. One of my favorite authors is Neil Gaiman. His writing style and inspiration is so eclectic and I am always pleased.

Welcome Christina!!! Neil Gaiman is one of my favorites too -- weird, wonderful, and funny all in one. :) Mary Kay

Amanda W. | 1 comments Hi, I'm Amanda and I work at GEPL too! It's hard for me to pick a favorite author or book. I like a good story with some suspense and a touch of romance, but I'm willing to try anything if it holds my attention. =)

Hi, I'm Chris and I work in the Adult department at GEPL. I'm a big fan of both epic and urban fantasy as well as historical mystery and historical fiction...and, OK, a few other categories as well! I'm currently reading a book by Patrick Rothfuss called Name of the Wind. Wonderful beginning of an epic fantasy series. He's still writing the third in the series.
