I must admit to having misgivings too. Not sure about casting and ages of the characters (keep thinking that Carey Mulligan seems very young although I like her)...But Buz Luhrman can sure shake things up. Although I love the Great Gatsby so feel quite protective of it...I'll definitely go an watch...

Hi Olga - thanks for stopping by. I feel the same way - I love this story so much that I don't want anyone to ruin it for future generations. Leonardo just doesn't seem right as Gatsby to me - but I could be wrong. I will probably watch it at some point, and I do hope it will be good.

I think Tobey might work OK as Nick though (although again he always looks very young to me, but I saw him in 'Brothers' and he's a fairly impressive performer...As we see all from Nick's perspective Gatsby remains a bit of a cypher anyway). Yes, when I first saw the ads last year I asked myself, why is Leonardo doing that? And immediately replied to myself...Who wouldn't want to be Gatsby?I hope it works. I loved both the novel and the TV version of Brideshead Revisited and worried about the movie version. Although I didn't like it as much as the TV series I enjoyed it. They went for younger actors playing the parts and focused on other parts of the story.
Let's see...
I saw a ballet version of Gatsby las month (Norther Ballet) and it was very good.

My goodness - a ballet version? I love ballet & The Great Gatsby - what a fun combination. :-)

Yes. It was excellent. The Northern Ballet (based in Manchester) do very good versions. I've seen their Wuthering Heights that was great too. Matthew Bourne's 'The Portrait of Dorian Gray' also fabulous (although he's always pretty unconventional). I'm going to watch his 'Sleeping Beauty' next month.

I bet Sleeping Beauty will be beautiful!

How many of you are excited about the new remake of The Great Gatsby? I'm on the fence - I don't like the previews because they seem to change the tone of the story, but maybe I'm wrong. I love the version done by Robert Redford and Mia Farrow years ago. What do you think? http://thegreatgatsby.warnerbros.com/
