There were several comments this week that the vocabulary of this book is challanging. I think Marie is going to do some work on the British slang aspect of that. I wanted to start a thread for the words that we do not actual know that Mieville is using.

In the first section I made a note of three:

1. plinth--supporting block: a square block beneath a column, pedestal, or statue

2. Ajut--does not appear to be a real word?

3. perspicacity--acute perception: acuteness of discernment or perception

Marie (writingne1) Ajut- to help with; to contribute to to a need

Marie (writingne1) Abjure= solemnly renounce
Dish=money
Bosh=nonsense
Cack=crap
Weightomancy=invented technical term
Planurgy=invented magical term (extreme origami

Marie (writingne1) Kip= sleep; nap

Regular bird= time in prison
Rozzers=police
Gob=mouth
Pony=rubbish;shit
Cack-handled=awkwardly
Natter=talk;conversation
Take the piss; take the joke
Nicked=stole

Marie (writingne1) Bunce= An illicit profit or gain; benefit not accounted for in accounts or for tax purposes.
Bint= tart; whore
Dobber(ing)= tosser; wanker; masturbater
pops his clogs= dies
Giz a snog= give us a kiss
