Oh, The Road is SO good!
Nermin wrote: "But is The Road a part of fantasy series? I thought it was something completely different."Yeah, it is a stand alone post apocalyptic novel. I maintain that it is great though. ;-)
Oh, I can't say anything about that as I haven't read it yet but I thought we were trying to choose fantasy series to read:)
- The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson - The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny
- Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett
- Gentleman Bastard by Scott Lynch
- Codex Alera by Jim Butcher
Demon Cycle by Peter V. BrettThe Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson

Those are my top 5 series to read, although I have many more I'm desperate to read! haha. It looks like we all have fairly similar lists.
(I would encourage all of you to read the Gentlemen Bastards books published already and Im already eager to read book 3 when its published later this year :) )
Anyone with The Demon Cycle on their list should get right on it. It is so amazing. Maybe we could add it to the list to vote on for our next series. Although I just read the three books out a few weeks ago, I'd already love to re-read it. I've recommended it to two people who started with the first book a few short weeks ago and both read right through and are now in the middle of the latest book.

I read the first one when it first came out and loved it. Just never got around to reading the sequel. And didn't even know the last one was out.
Traci L. wrote: "I read the first one when it first came out and loved it. Just never got around to reading the sequel. And didn't even know the last one was out."There are two out now. There is The Desert Spear and The Daylight War. I loved them both. The Daylight War is much more focused on the politics of the world, but still excellent!
My TBR series includeLightbringer by Brent Weeks
The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson
A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin
and I just started The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

Lol, exactly, thats why I waited to finally start the Wheel of Time! So Mistborn maybe the next for me, since I have all the books, patiently waiting to be read.
I try to read only finished series lately. I also need to catch up on some fantasy classics. With this in mind, I have the following top five to read:

4. Drenai Saga by David Gemmell.
5. Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson - I tried reading this one and could not get past the (un)famous scene in the beginning, I will try again based on my friends' recommendations.

Casey, the Kingkiller chronicles are amazing! It has a slow start but it's one of the best books I've ever read.
Drake wrote: "Casey, the Kingkiller chronicles are amazing! It has a slow start but it's one of the best books I've ever read."Good to know Drake! I started it but just couldn't get through the first chapter or two. I loved the writing but just couldn't get into it. The whole series came highly recommended which is why I got it.
I had the same problem. I had no idea what was going on and I was on like page 60. I about gave up but somebody told me just to keep reading because it gets really good. I did and HOLY CRAP! It gets good. He writes the plot so well sometimes you can't even pick up on foreshadowing until someone points it out to you. It's one read that's worth the push to keep reading.

I really hope so because I started reading it last year I made it through about 100-150 pages and was bored. I will be giving it another chance whenever the group wants to reads it! Lets hope the second time around is better!

@ CJ and Shaad, it's for sure worth the read. And yeah it's a long read and a slow start but you'll be so satisfied you did it and by book two you won't be able to understand why you didn't like it the first time. The world is so well built, the characters are incredible, and the plot is deeper than I could even appreciate on my first read through. (There is this group on good reads that all they do is try to come up with theories for book three. They've blown my mind with stuff I didn't even notice existed in the first two books and after it was pointed out I was like, "well duh! How did I miss that?")I've been thinking about rereading the first one because I too was really bored at the start and skimmed a lot or didnt pay attention. So I've been meaning to go back through the first book. That's why I voted for it for the next series, even though I've already read it.
@ Shaad, I'll have to check that out! It will hopefully give me a Stormlight fix. Because I'm craving it.
Realized today that there are 9 series I have started reading that I am waiting for the next book to come out. Kind of frustrating.
