Tempt the Stars (Cassandra Palmer #6)
OMG Glorious day indeed! Tease me with this thread! But we're finally getting close! It feels like it's been years... ;)
It has been years! Hunt the Moon was released in June 2011, so it'll be about 2 and one-third years by the time Tempt the Stars comes out. That could be centuries in the demon realm for poor Pritkin!
LOL!! Holy Cow, you are right! I know its been long, but when you break it down like that I want to cry. Relief is just around the corner!
Poor Pritkin...suffering for so long. He will need some serious Cassie lovin' by the time they save him! ;p
I'm sure Pritkin will have no shortage of women willing to console him. :DIt is a bit of a shock when you count the months from Hunt the Moon to Tempt the Stars. At least there was Fury's Kiss six months ago to keep us going.
I wish we knew when the teaser chapters were going to come out. I tried to search back and I think the Hunt the Moon teasers were released really early, like possibly 8-9 months in advance. Fury's Kiss was six months, so I'm hoping we see something for Tempt the Stars soon.
I didn't realize how long it's been because I read HtM late. Wow! I can't wait to find out about Pritkin.
I read HtM as soon as it came out because that was also right around the time that I'd started the series. It's been so looooonnngggggg since then.
Hopefully we get the teasers soon, then we'll have the reread starting late July, so October will be here before we know it.Of course the most important question is ... how much Marlowe is there going to be in this book. He only got about one or two pages in Hunt the Moon.
I'm betting there'll be a load more than Marlowe. :)Even if he spends the book in hell, I'm betting he'll still manage to dominate the story.
I'm dying for more Pritkin and less Mircea. Sorry, just don't care for that vampire at all. I don't hate the guy, I'm more ambivalent about him, but I adore Pritkin.
I think I change my mind about characters every time a new book comes out. Since Fury's Kiss, Mircea's ahead of Pritkin in my favourites, but not in an adoring sort of way.I love to question Mircea's every action and always fail to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I have to admit, I love reading his scenes. He's such a complex, layered character and I enjoy distrusting him. Pritkin feels more straight-forward and you know where you stand with him and he'd never let you down or sell you out. But I think it's the ambiguity about Mircea that makes him so interesting.
Marlowe is my favourite hottie in the books. :)
Oh I remember when we got the Hunt the Moon chapters and there was nakedness!! That did keep us going for a while :PI'm worried that there might not be much Pritkin for most of the book (until the end), as I don't think it's going to take 5 minutes to find him and get him out. I also think it's going to be make-or-break for Cassie and Mircea. If he tries to stop her going after Pritkin (which is a big possibility), it might be the final straw for Cassie (plus him not telling her about Dory which will probably come out as well).
That being said, Lannister you are so right about Mircea. I love him, especially as a character (me and my sister have long in depth discussions about him and still can't decide our feelings LOL), and I do want him to be happy but I just think Cassie and Pritkin suit each other more.
I like Mircea on the page, because he's an interesting character. I like his interactions and freaking out over Cassie's safety. I like Pritkin cause he's... pritkin ;)
Ya know, maybe that's why I like Mircea so much??! His complexity, never knowing what he'll do or say, the alpha-ness (of course), and I'm always suckered into the history... I suspect ya'll are right about Cassie ending up with Pritkin if only because he comes across more as a man of her times whereas Mircea is very much a man of his origins.
Josie wrote: "I'm worried that there might not be much Pritkin for most of the book (until the end)"Yeah, I've wondered that too, especially if the book delves deeply into Cassie and Mircea's relationship. There may not be a huge amount of time.
But, honestly, having read the blurb that's been released, I'm thinking that all our assumptions and guesses might be completely incorrect. We assumed the book would be about Cassie going to the demon realm, and that does get a mention in the blurb, but it's just one thing amongst many. I have this feeling that Cassie's 'rescue' of Pritkin may not turn out at all like what we've been thinking. I wouldn't be surprised if Pritkin does a deal himself with Rosier and maybe shows up in the nick of time to rescue Cassie!
I am hugely looking forward to Cassie confronting Mircea about his 'girlfriend' and I will feel cheated if that doesn't get touched on somewhere in the book.
I really hope Cassie does actually have to rescue Pritkin herself, and has to make some sort of sacrifice to do so, because it would really hit home for him how much he means to her, and also indicate to Mircea and others in her life the same. I would feel kind of cheated if he ends up saving himself or some third party swoops in to the rescue. It would feel like so much potential emotional buildup for nothing. And, the blurb does indicate she plays an active part...*fingers crossed*
I see what you're saying about wanting Cassie to rescue Pritkin and I agree that it would rob us of some of the emotional impact if he frees himself. But I still don't think it's going to be as straight forward as Cassie going into hell, grabbing him, and shifting out. I like the idea of her making some sort of sacrifice though, and it would fit really well with Pritkin's psyche. You bring up an interesting point about Mircea's response to Cassie wanting to rescue Pritkin.
Things are already a little rocky between them after Fury's Kiss and Mircea will not be happy about Cassie potentially endangering herself to rescue Pritkin. And the blurb does talk about 'an increasingly possessive master vampire'. Interesting times ahead!
I hope Cassie finally puts her foot down and tells Mircea she's not playing his games any more. In Hunt the Moon Cassie talks a little to Pritkin about how she has to stand up for herself constantly or Mircea won't respect her and will treat her as a pet or a servant, but not an equal. This must get tiresome after a while. I hope we see some fireworks between them!
I think we will :DI completely agree Kat and Lannister. Pritkin is always rescuing Cassie and it'd be nice for Cassie to rescue him instead :P
About Mircea, I feel it's in his nature to take over and be in control - it's exactly what he does with Dory which is why they argue.
Apparently we also find out more about Cassie's dad, do you think we'll see more of Cassie's parents? Maybe they help her?
Oh and KC says that the chapter in coming soon!!
Josie, where did KC say about the teaser chapters? Was it in an email? Spill the beans!! :DI think Tempt the Stars will start with Cassie travelling into the past a little to steal the paperweight that her father's trapped in. Then, maybe, we'll see a trip into Faerie. In theory, her father (and possibly her mother too?) should become corporeal in Faerie, though whether the Fey let them stay there is a whole other issue.
On facebook someone asked "Is there an excerpt anywhere for Tempt the Stars yet? If there is, I seem to have missed it, and if there isn't, can we expect one?" and KC answered with "Coming soon!" on 27th April :)Yes! I'd forgotten that happened to ghosts! Yeah, the Fey stuff still hasn't been sorted out, especially as she didn't do what the Fey King wanted.
This is good news about the teaser chapters!! Thanks for that. I hoped we'd be getting them soon, but it's good to have confirmation. On the Fey, yup, the situation is complicated. Cassie will have pissed off the Dark Fey king by not delivering the Codex Merlini to him. But, then, he got kidnapped by the Green Fey and his wife, the Morrigan, wants help to get him back, so they might be willing to forgive and forget. Then there's Caedmon and his merry band of elves. Maybe once Cassie and Dory are best buds, Dory could ask Caedmon, as a favour, if the Ma & Pa of her new BFF could hang out in Faerie for a while. Never mind that there's a war going on.
There's a whole load of plot still to be uncovered here. I can't wait!! :)
I can't wait!I agree about wanting Cassie to be instrumental in Pritkin's rescue. I want her to have to figure out a way to get him back, maybe go to her court and martial her influence. I want Cassie to be forced to assert her authority as Pythia and make the supernatural world take her seriously.
Okay so this is what I think will be in the bookI believe that the next book will be especially about Cassie & Pritkin
Seems it will start with a big fight between Cassie and Mircea, because he didn't introduced her as a Pythia to the "high society" and because that he didn't trust her enough to tell her about Dory.
In addition she will tell him that she is going to save the only person who believes in her and then she will Disappear and would not let him a chance to stop her.
Apparently she will find a way to go to hell but in order to release Pritkin she will have to sacrifice something, only if she will do something for Raziel he will release Pritkin . While she will try to do "hell's dirty work" she will find herself in trouble and Pritkin will succeed to release himself and save her just in time before her death...
of course while the main plot there will be another million side stories....but that is why I like KC :D
Yes, good. Really it could be the most ridiculous plot ever and as long as Pritkin was there, behaving in character, I would be happy.
Thanx, great idea Lannister!! (LOL)And as long as Pritkin will be included, then the book will be good :D
Personally, I think Cassie's going to have to go to hell to get Pritkin and make a deal. I believe the deal will be allowing Pritkin to engage power exchanges to help the demons. What greater power then a demigoddess? I can't see how else she'll be able to get him out.I'm also curious if Cassie finds out about Dory in this book. Just me two cents
Um, does anyone know when we'll at least get a sample chapter? Ever since this thread was started I have been checking KC's website hoping there'd be one, but now I am starting to think it's out and I can't find it. :(
Good question Scarlet. The teaser chapters for Fury's Kiss were out around April 26, with the book release Oct 1. If Tempt the Stars were to follow that pattern, we should have seen the sample chapters about 1 month ago. I have not seen them yet.
I do know that KC needs permission from her publisher before she can post them.
Still waiting for Masks as well.

Scarlet, see Josie's comment no. 25 above. KC said last month that it would be "coming soon". We don't know any more than that.I hoped it would be out by now too. That's kinda why I set up this thread so early. I just couldn't wait!! :)
I'm sure you'll get it soon Claire, then you can taunt us with it while drinking vampire coffee! :DThe big question is ... will you get your mug or the teaser chapters first?!
I just finished doing a reread of the series and I keep coming back to the same question. What can Cassie use to bargain with Rosier to get Pritkin back? Anybody got any guesses??

Time travel...to a time when Rosier can influence some event that will prove beneficial to him.
Remember the Demon Council was so set on killing Cassie because her time travel ability coupled (heh!) with Pritkin's knowledge of demon history was terrifying to them; they believed Pritkin could go back in time and know exactly when and where to strike to wipe them out. Rosier might demand a trip back in time to knock off an enemy or two.

Right, time travel seems the best option. OR something like, redoing time. Like the apple making it old or new again. Maybe rewriting a parchment of sorts? oooh I like that one.The crackpot theory, that most of us don't want it to go through is producing an heir for rosier.
Thanks guys!! I was completely blank on what she could do to get him back. I'm also wondering what you guys think that the Goddess Hel can do? The big question I guess will be if Cassie can get him back but if she'll also be able to get the restictions lifted on him :-) I pesonally can't wait to see the demon council and more of Rosier's surrounding.
I don't know if we're guaranteed a Pritkin rescue without restrictions, but I just know that we'll see Cassie try to save him. There's no way she'll be able to stand the thought of Pritkin trapped in hell as a demon boy toy.

So excited to see what happens, especially with Pritkin and Cassie.I also hope to see more Marco.Sigh.... It's too far away

This thread is for spoiler discussions of Tempt the Stars. Please keep the original Tempt the Stars thread free of spoilers, as some group members may not want to read the teaser chapters in advance, so let's try to confine our discussions and theorising to this thread.
