I recently picked up Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk and am thinking about reading it next.

I haven't heard too much about it. Has anyone here read this book & would you recommend it?

message 2: by Jess (new)

Jess I have it on my TBR, that's about all I know of it so far. Someone probably recommended it to me. But if you read it first let me know :)

I just started it today. I'm only a few pages in & I like the premise and writing style so far. I'll definately let you know what I think.

Lily (lilithesque) I liked the book. Interesting spin on magic. Really like the love interest. Ymmmy. My hope is that in future books some of the blank spots get filled in. It may be a purposeful part of the storytelling techneque. I felt that some of the secondary charicters were more vivid then Ellie. We hashed this one out as a book of the month on B&N's paranormal thread a few months ago. (can I say that or is it a fo-paw? Thats where I heard of this site.) I would say more but it would go deeply into spoiler land and most of you havent read this one yet. I give this book extra points on originality of worldbuilding.

Haa Haa - I had to share this from the book.

"I felt cold and numb, like I was buried in snow, which annoyed me. I'd thought a little bit about how I wanted to die, and freezing to death in an avalanche wasn't even on my top-ten-favorite-ways-to-bite-it list. Ten invovled chocolate and sex."

I'm going to have to make my top ten list of pleasurable ways to die. I like the idea of chocolate and sex... hmmm....

I finished this book last night and I loved it. I can't wait until the next one comes out.

I reccomend it to anyone who doesn't need a Happily-Ever-After at the end of their books.

There are a lot of things to be resolved in future books but it's not a cliff-hanger ending. Which is my favorite type of ending for a series.

Magic In the Blood (book 2) comes out 5/5 and now I have a dilemma - do I read the new Sookie book, released the same day, or this one first????

message 7: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathry) Well, I haven't started this book yet, though I would like to, but come on, Sookie all the way! I bet book 9 will be popping up like crazy the first day it's out. I guarantee that I will stop reading everything else and read book 9 straight through to the end, I'm sooo excited!

I am very excited about the Sookie book too! Only 13 more days :)

I just hate it when I have 2 books I REALLY want to read and have to pick one to read first. But you're right - Sookie will win - she always does.

I'm about half way through the latest book, Magic in the Shadows and really enjoying it!

Slight spoiler... but not if you've read the first 2............................................................

I think the thing that has been the most interesting for me is Allie's Dad being in her head. What an experience that would be! Could you imagine having someone who you did not like & get along with pushing your emotions, manipulating your thoughts, and putting in their two cents from the inside?? Ick!

Kim (mrsnesbitt) | 77 comments I've read them all and can't wait for the next one. I feel like she just grabs you by the collar and carries you along for the ride. I think she is the next one to watch.

(I can imagine what is like to have " someone who you did not like & get along with pushing your emotions, manipulating your thoughts, and putting in their two cents from the inside??" as Shanon so eloquently put it. It is called my mother.)
