and....done! It was actually very good indeed, the world was very fascinating, and the "magic" even if they didn't call it that, was very interestingly done. I liked the people, wouldn't want to live there. Definitely convinced me to grab the next one. Almost said some...not spoilers but things that could hint at too much, but I'll wait in case someone else is just now getting around to this one.

yeah, yeah, Jass tells me how sickening it is all the time, I can't help it though, if I have the time to sit and actually read for more than an hour at a time, the books are just magically done!

but this is part of why I get confused as to which book out of a series some things happen in, especially if I read them right one on top of the other, it all goes by so quick :)

Wow, Sanasai, you're hardcore! I'm still deciding whether I'm going to do this or Storm Front first! In my defence, my band is in the studio right now...which, although completely true and a great-sounding excuse, is not really the reason why I don't read that fast. Truth is, I seldom get through more than a book a week, and when I get busier I go through them much slower than that. I am going to try to read both Mistborn and Storm Front this month, though!

Yes, Alexis, it is quite a juggling act, especially when you throw in a wife, a kid, and a full-time job(actually my wife is really good at helping me keep all the balls in the air). Funny that the one ball that I'm the least emotionally invested in - the day job - is the one that takes up the most time by a substantial majority.

Looking forward to starting this book. My brother is reading it right now and says it's pretty good, and he and I have very similar tastes in books. I just started Storm Front, but that seems like it should be a pretty quick read.

yeah as soon as Allomancy was described, I knew I was gonna be totally hooked on this! He did an excellent job coming up with something really different there.

Cool. You should tell me how it is. I'm a little over halfway through the first one and I'm not blown away, but I am enjoying it. I would consider continuing to read the other books if you gave them rave reviews. None of the readers in my circle of friends have made it past the first book yet, and most of them haven't even read that one.

Finished it today. It was good, but not great. The characters were a little flat and the plot was relatively predictable, although there was a nice little twist at the end that I didn't see coming. The real strength of this book, in my opinion, was the magic system. Very cool, very inventive, and with enough mystery still surrounding it at the end of the novel for Sanderson to have somewhere to go with it in succeeding books. I'm interested in checking out the other books in the series.

On a side note, how is it that you don't think Allomancy is magic, Alexis? After reading your comment, I was half expecting it to be revealed as some form of technology or something. I'm curious to hear your view on the subject.

Ah, I see what you mean. See, I took the -mancy suffix to mean that it was a form of magic, but you're right, it did have more of a Marvel-comics-style-psionics sort of feel to it. Regardless, a great system, which really made the book for me.

I've really enjoyed all the books that this group has decided to read! Is it too early to start talking about what to read in June?

Yeah some of the surprises (for the characters) were not too surprising for me either, but it's hard to truly surprise anyone once they've read widely enough really, without risking losing believability. It was all done well enough that I didn't mind the clear foreshadowing that (view spoiler)[ Kelsier would end as a martyr, or that the brother would show up to join the group right when they needed someone (hide spoiler)] Also, I really was fascinated by the Steel Inquisitors in a horrible way, excellent villains. I'm actually hoping they show up again in this next book, because they're so disturbing, I want more answers about them. :)

second book also very fun, about equal to the first, quality-wise. dissappointed there wasn't much on the steel inquisitors, but I just began the third book and we learn a bit more already there, so I'm happy now! Even though it's kinda a gross scene....
