A Walk Across the Sun
(India). I an gonna read this wether it is chosen or not. So many great books about India.
(Michigan) and on the 1001 books to read before you die list.
I'd like to nominate Jim Harrison's Returning to Earth
for Michigan. Harrison is one of my favorite writers and this book weaves together themes from his earlier work with a good deal of wisdom.
For India, I'll nominate Six Suspects
, a murder mystery based on real events, written by the investigative journalist who wrote Q&A (the book on which Slumdog Millionaire is based).
I would like to nominate The Beautiful Room is Empty
for Michigan. It is also one of the 1001 books.
Michigan:
]A 1,000-Mile Walk on the Beach: One Woman's Trek of the Perimeter of Lake MichiganIndia:
A Good Indian Wife
An wrote: "The story starts in India, moves to the US, side-trips to Europe and ends in India.
"Please do not nominate books you have written.

Anything by Bonnie Jo Campbell would fit the Michigan prong. I thought the short stories in American Salvage (nominated above) were excellent and the novel Once Upon a River is amazing.
OMG the movie is released and it looks so good so I change my choice in India to Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children
. This is one of the books on my tbr list.
I'd like to nominate "India was One", by An Indian. The book is written with an enormous feel for language. I am really enchanted by this story and its poetic prose. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in this fascinating country and its people. The fine language is an extra bonus.
For Michigan I nominate:
Voices of the Lost and Found by Dorene Obrien
India:Arranged Marriage: Stories by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
Over the weekend I picked up
, a First Reads I had in my queue. What do you know - it's by an Indian author, Thrity Umrigar, set in Bombay and, so far, very good! I'd like to nominate as an August Book of the Month.
