2013 Hub Reading Challenge discussion

Ugh. This book has no redeeming qualities, and it has plenty of issues. I understand the use of profanity in young adult works, but there really is no reason to use the term for a person with mental retardation or the term for a gay man (that also happens to be an old term for a stick). Not ever. Aside from the drinking, the sex, and the violence, the teens don't have any redeeming qualities, and I don't get to watch anyone grow or change. This book was a huge disappointment. Sometimes I wonder why books win the awards they win.
