Good morning, afternoon, evening depending on where you are :-),

please be so kind and say a few words about yourself, where you are from and why you like to read translated fiction.

It is always nicer when we know who we are talking to :-). Thank you very much Bee

My name is Bee and I am from Germany but now living in Norfolk UK. In Germany you read an awful lot of translated fiction and I am always surprised about the hesitation of British readers to try it out. Now this group does not only apply to Britain but I just do not know how this looks like in other English speaking countries. I want to support translated books as I think they open the world to us and give us a treasure of wonderful fiction that we would miss if they would not translated. I am a blogger, still working in a supermarket, wife, step-mother of two, reader (of course) and ginger (never mind ;-) ).
It's nice to meet you all!
Bee

Hello out there, it is lovely to see this group growing. We have 9 members now and it would be very kind of you if you could say a few words here about yourself. Thank you very much and have a wonderful weekend!

Octavian Gabor | 2 comments Hello! My name is Tavi. I read especially Russian literature, but I also translate books from Romanian to English. I've translated three so far; the most recent one is about deportations in Siberia.

I currently reread Crime and Punishment.

Hello Tavi, nice to meet you and thanks for joining. I do not know much about Russian literature besides the famous ones, of course. I would appreciate suggestions both of Russian and Romanian authors that we could read. Well, if they are translated :-). Have a nice evening!

Ahmed Alameen (ahmedhalameen) | 4 comments Hello everyone. My name is Ahmed, I am Iraqi by nationality, I was born in Kuwait where I lived almost half of my life, I then resided in temporary homes in Emirates, Egypt, and just recently, China. I'm a dentist by day, and writer by night. The reason why I love reading novels, especially different corners of the world, is not only because it's the cheapest vacation, but also to look through the stereotype, and the media and embrace diversity and originality in story people and their stories. It is the reason why I also write, in hopes to make a connection. Nice meeting you all.

Hello Bee and thank you for your welcome. I am about to start reading Laurus. I heard it is a very good book (translated from Russian). I am very fond of Solzhenitsyn, as well. As for Romanian, there are not many translations. There are some poems by Eminescu, Mihai, if you're interested. Not much literature, as far as I know. I've translated a couple of books from Romanian, but they are not literary books (philosophy and history).

I actually look forward to see suggestions coming from within this group as well. Take care!
