I'm surprised no one has mentioned Madeleine L'Engle. Her books are older, but helped me keep my faith during my teens because she allowed for questions and doubts. Yet the characters also clung to God.

I've loved A Wrinkle in Time since I was 11, but I've never read any of her other books. I think I'm afraid that they won't measure up to that one.
The Austin books are a completely different type of set. All except the last I have reread many times. Maybe my review of them will encourage you to read them too. :-)

I definitely have to check more of her books out. You could nominate Meet the Austins for July's group read because the theme is death and dying

Thanks for telling me about the theme nominations. I'll have to think about whether to nominate Meet the Austins or one of Matthew Quick's books. His are also about death.
