Just so you know, Rose in Bloom is the second book in the duo.
Eight Cousins is first, and if you haven't read it, I would encourage you to start with it.

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 18 comments Plans she says.....

I have to admit that I tried reading Little Women twice in my younger years and never could get into the story.

So I am determined to make it through as many of these as I can.

However, I just horrified myself to realize the edition I have of Little Women says "abridged for modern reading". Not acceptable in my book reading, so I must replace this version. I wonder if the other 5 published in this set are abridged as well? It only says that at the beginning of Little Women, but I am now skeptical.

The other book titles in this printed series that I own:
Jo's Boys
Eight Cousins
Jack and Jill
Under the Lilacs
Little Men

Off to ponder....

Okay then it will just be the other two."

BTW are you thinking of posting the Alcott reads on Ammie?"

Do you think I should?

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah MacPherson I think I'll read Little Men

and, if I can find it on my shelves

Behind a Mask: The Unknown Thrillers Of Louisa May Alcott

because I haven't read it in years.

message 7: by Jaylia3 (new)

Jaylia3 I loved Eight Cousins when I was growing up but haven't looked at it since. I plan to reread that and read its sequel, Rose in Bloom. I may try to do An Old Fashioned Girl also.

As far as the biographies go I read Marmee and Louisa earlier this year and would love to discuss it.

message 8: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 9 comments I started Little Women last night. I just couldn't wait!

Officially, for November, I plan to read Eight Cousins, Rose in Bloom and An Old-Fashioned Girl. I'll also try to fit in a biography, although I haven't decided which one.

I am reading Eden's Outcasts: The Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Father

Jaylia read Marmee and Louisa: The Untold Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Mother and really liked it. Either of those will give you some company.

I am going to Read " Rose in Bloom", " Old Fashioned Girl" and " Under The Lilacs". Whats great about Louisa's books is that you can read them over and over and its always good. There is a book about Louisa and her sister I want to read does anyone know the title? I know I saw it somewhere.

Cindy | 9 comments I'm getting a head start...just started An Old-Fashioned Girl. November will be busy, plus Thanksgiving in the US...

message 12: by isanythingopen (new)

isanythingopen I think I'm going to go with her mystery/suspense/thrillers:

The Mysterious Key and What it opened
Pauline's Passion and Punishment

Ooo, neat. I've never heard of these!

message 14: by isanythingopen (new)

isanythingopen They are available on Gutenberg, and they might be on Mobileread.com as well.

The Mysterious Key is pretty good so far.

I've got that one lined up to listen to on Librivox, too. Between the genre challenge and the Alcott event, I've got 16 books to listen to this month! :(

I'm about 3/4 through Jack and Jill. I'll read Mysterious Key next.

I am reading Eight Cousins, and think that I will give Mysterious Key a try next as well.

message 21: by isanythingopen (new)

isanythingopen I think Pauline's Passion and Punishment will be next if I can tear myself away from the Mistborn series.

message 22: by yuka (new)

yuka | 2 comments I've read several times the works of Alcott, but in Japanese.
I'll try to read 'Little Women' in English!

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 18 comments I'm not making it through the Alcott books very quickly yet this month.

I am still working on Eight Cousins. I have Marmee & Louisa: The Untold Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Mother, Little Women, Little MenandJo's Boys ready to go....but I don't think I will make. The little engine in me is plugging away at multiple books trying!

message 24: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 9 comments I read Little Women, An Old-Fashioned Girl, Eight Cousins and Rose in Bloom in fairly quick succession. I need a bit of an Alcott break before I read even an Alcott biography.

I'm leaning toward Marmee and Louisa: The Untold Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Mother right now...maybe in December.

Not sure that is very surprising. I was trying to read last night and kept drifting off.

Well, remember, we still have December to finish up the Alcott Event. Also, remember, this is supposed to be fun. If it stops being fun, take a break. A really long, permanent break, if that's what you need to do!

I do still plan to read Rose in Bloom and The Mysterious Key and What it Opened but I'm pretty sure that Eden's Outcasts: The Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Father will need to wait until December!

message 28: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 18 comments It is fun, I am just trying to finish way too many books in November.

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 18 comments Gee, shocking, I'm behind. I did at least finish Eight Cousins.

Stumbled upon this book, a historical fiction called The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott. Might be interesting at some point.

message 31: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 18 comments I so did not accomplish what I wanted to for this event.

I plan on reading Little Women this year since I have yet to read it. With any luck maybe I can squeeze a few others in as well.
