Hey guys, I just released a new version of Evan Burl with three alternate endings and I need your help deciding which one to use in the final version that I'm publishing later this year. I thought it would be fun to create a discussion board to talk about which one is best.

If you're interested, here is a blog post about why I'm even talking about changing the ending, since the book has already been published: http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...

If you want to pick up a copy of the book with the new endings, you can download it at http://evanburl.com/download

I hope you'll stop by and give your input. Thanks!

Kim | 2 comments Hi Justin,

Read your alternate endings, and I really like the original! Knowing that there would be more in the series, I wasn't surprised that it was a "cliffhanger" ending. Leaving it there really made me want to know more, and made me anxious for the next book! Maybe if the book was marked "book 1" or something, that way these people who are surprised that there is no ending, will not be surprised, knowing there is more to come! I was surprised myself that it was Henri saying those things at the end about the falling, and not Evan, but that made it even more interesting!

Great! Thanks for the feedback. What did you like best about the ending, or what about it stood out to you vs the others? Also, are you commenting on the version that just came out last week?

Kim | 2 comments I read the full book that you sent me, not sure which version it is! But then I downloaded the new version that just came out onto my Kindle, so I could read the new endings. I just liked the way it leaves you hanging, but I knew you were working on a second book, and would explain in that one! The two new endings give you a little more info, but take away the suspense. Honestly, I wish I hadn't read them! It ruins the wonder of it! Now I know they go back in time, but not why!

Cool, thanks for that info. So far I've had about 5 people respond and they've all agreed with you.

Maki ⌒☆ (tanukigrrl) I think I might be missing something. Is the version with the new endings an update of the original book, or do I have to buy a new copy? Because Amazon isn't showing an updated version for me. :S

(Even without reading the new content, I'm pretty sure I'll end up liking the original ending more, though. While yes, it's a scream-inducing cliffhanger, I thought it brilliantly tied up the first book.)

Read my first message for where to get a free download.

I went there already, and there's only a link to the Amazon copy (which Amazon says I already have) and a Smashwords copy. Do I have to grab it from Smashwords?

Yeah, all the latest versions are up on smash words. I can email you a kindle version if you need one.

Ok, I'll grab it from Smashwords.

(Update: Yes, I prefer the original ending. Ending 3 was a bit less of a cliffhanger, but where's the fun in that? :P)

Vote tally stands at

Ending 1: 6
Ending 2: 0
Ending 3: 0

Sally Hannoush | 5 comments This is kinda about the ending but kinda not. Earlier it was stated that the Fallings couldn't leave the grounds until they were 16 or would die and then Evan sent them away to save them. Does this mean they died?

I think I have a resolution to that problem somewhere in my notes :) I'll double check and make sure it works with the future stories - Thanks for pointing it out!

Sally Hannoush | 5 comments Not a problem. I've got an idea if you need one. It's not great but it solves the problem.

Sure!

Sally Hannoush | 5 comments Well, I was thinking that either:
A. They can leave before the age of 16 if they do not voluntarily leave on their own accord
or
B. They can leave and not die as long they don't physically cross the grounds.
It would be like the magic that binds them to the grounds are tied with their mind/body.

Great ideas! I'll have to dig into my notes and see what I was planning. Thanks
