I only wanted to recommend ones that might also appeal to male readers, but I'm going to have to suggest one that's more aimed at a female readership.

I was wrong about Across the Universe - that's one I read for the Expand Your Horizons reading challenge, not a group read. I'd classify it as pure sci-fi, though, not dystopia as it's not a society recognizable to us and it takes place in space.

I best add those two to bookshelves, before i get confused in future.
Its classed as dystopia on goodreads, so I still think it should be on the poll.

or
. I've heard of both a lot but haven't read either. I'm not famaliar with Raphael Carter but I think Maureen F. McHugh is a very good science fiction writer esp. when it comes to psychology & cross-culture experience.
Maybe you would like to consider, George Orwell's '1984', or Margaret Atwood's 'The Handmaid's Tale'.Both are set in a totalitarian society, and although 1984 is now in the past, it was originally set in the future. However, I think that it still relates.

The genre has to be Dystopian :)
Dystopian: A dystopia is a community or society, usually fictional, that is in some important way undesirable or frightening. It is the opposite of a utopia. Such societies appear in many works of fiction, particularly in stories set in a speculative future. Dystopias are often characterized by dehumanization,[1] totalitarian governments, environmental disaster,[2] or other characteristics associated with a cataclysmic decline in society. Elements of dystopias may vary from environmental to political and social issues. Dystopian societies have culminated in a broad series of sub-genres of fiction and are often used to raise real-world issues regarding society, environment, politics, religion, psychology, spirituality, or technology that may become present in the future. For this reason, dystopias have taken the form of a multitude of speculations, such as pollution, poverty, societal collapse, political repression, or totalitarianism.
