Hope you like your new home, Catriona! I love Ontario. I'm west, in southern Manitoba. I've been to Scotland & England, love both. Carolyn www.CMRiedel.WordPress.com
Welcome Catriona, I can totally relate, I'm a brit that moved to Aus and now Canada. Always nice to meet a fellow Pom :)
I don't want to break the rules of the group or get in trouble for spamming. But having recently published a Canadian based book, I am interested in connecting with Canadian readers. (Not always easy to do from the other side of the Pond!) Can anyone tell me if there is an area in this group for book promotions, and if so, what the etiquette is for using it? Thanks! On a different topic, I have been adding books to the Listopia list, Canadian Reads. Some great books on there but some surprising omissions too. Bet you guys could improve it no end!
What genre would you say your book falls into Catriona? Or would there be more than one? I'm a former Torontonian/GTA resident and Canadian living out west in Calgary now (and loving it!). If you'd like to read another Canadian author whom you didn't mention in your profile - try Katherine Govier. She's written a few based in and around the Toronto area, one in Japan, and one of my favourite books "The Three Sisters Bar and Hotel" set in the Banff, Alberta area. It includes some history on how the Banff area was developed and designated a National Park, has some beautifully descriptive passages of the mountains and surrounding areas and has a captivating family story at its core. I don't know how much you know about Banff and its mountains but there are three prominent mountains called The Three Sisters, and these are shown on the cover of the novel, which aligns with the three sisters in the family story in its modern day setting, and the bar and hotel are of course called The Three Sisters bar and Hotel. Looking forward to hearing about your book!

Grew up on the likes of Margaret Atwood, Robertson Davies, Stephen Leacock, Mordechai Richler, Pierre Burton and Alice Munro (not to mention LM Montgomery before that). Today I would add Michael Ondaatje, Rohinton Mistry, Yann Martel, Carol Shields... I could go on and on.
Hope to meet some other CanLit addicts here.
