This is funny as when I googled the first one up was Dr. Oz's which has made me SICK! I took a bottle of KAL brand and it was fine. IMO don't buy Dr. Oz brand!
more in a minute:

Background:Our review team spent 6 months testing 20 different Resveratrol products which are available online. Due to the various extraction methods of Resveratrol, some of these products seem to had little to no results. Resveratrol is a very sensitive/unstable molecule that can be deconstructed after extracting if not freeze dried the very next moment. This is why some products are of high quality (resveratrol is frozen immediately) while other are rather ineffective (delay in resveratrol freezing).

Results: 3 of the products we tested during our 6-month project fit all of our criteria -anti aging, weight loss and antioxidant abilities-. Besides these 3 products are great body energy boosters, as well as cardiovascular diseases protectors. It is important to say that many of the participants experianced a 23% raise of anti-aging factor (SIRT 1 Protein) while they lost more than 12 lbs in just one week! Read the following lines and choose a supplement with proven results, no more scams!

this from wickipedia about it:

Resveratrol (trans-resveratrol) is a phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol has also been produced by chemical synthesis[1:] and is sold as a nutritional supplement derived primarily from Japanese knotweed. In mouse and rat experiments, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood-sugar-lowering and other beneficial cardiovascular effects of resveratrol have been reported. Most of these results have yet to be replicated in humans. In the only positive human trial, extremely high doses (3–5 g) of resveratrol in a proprietary formulation have been necessary to significantly lower blood sugar.[2:] Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes and is a constituent of red wine, but apparently not in sufficient amounts to explain the French paradox. Experiments have shown that resveratrol treatment extended the life of fruit flies, nematode worms and short living fish but it did not increase the life span of mice.

Reggia | 2549 comments I wonder what the ingredients are in Dr Oz's product.

Glad you did better with the KAL brand; I have always liked their calcium and magnesium products.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, one was bitter orange and I am allergic to orange but they do not post this when you purchase it. Its really a scam. I will have to go get the bottle and I can tell you the rest besides the deep purple dye. I could have reacted even to the dye.

I had to log in here as I just got an email from Dr. Mercola's site and that song Stand By ME is posted there so you can go to
http://wwww.drmercola.com (hope that is right) and scroll down a little where you will see the song Stand By Me. Hope you can find it.

OK, from the bottle:
1. vitamin C -60 mg
2. Resveratrol 40 mg (KAL brand had lots more than this)
3. Acai Berry - 200 mg - I may also have reacted as never taken it before
4. Green Tea Leaf - 200 mg (taken lots of this from Immune support)
5. Ginger root powder - love this and use ginger all the time
6. Caffeine anhydrous - 120 mg
7. Bitter orange extract - 30 mg

Rice Flour, Magnesium Stearate

IMO this product is NOT PURE as too much stuff is mixed together. They don't tell you about all the other stuff when you buy this online.

Reggia | 2549 comments Only 40 mg of resveratrol?! Two well-known capsule brands each suggest 75 mg twice a day.

The 120 mg of caffeine along with the green tea leaf could very well be what upset your system. Most people will probably feel a boost from that caffeine but wrongly attribute it to well-being from the resveratrol. That's the thing about antioxidants; there's really no measurable 'feeling' as to how well they are doing their job. After all, their job is to fight free radicals not give us energy boosts. But I suppose many watching Dr Oz on Oprah may not realize that. :\

And the ginger which is a great herb for many may not be so beneficial for a select few, especially those who are having gallbladder issues. (From what I've read, those group of people should steer clear of ginger.)

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I do have major gallbladder issues and have been in the ER with it but milk thistle helps me alot. I take a brand with a purple lid - Nature's Way and I am fine with it. I am also fine with ginger as I cook with it.

I didn't get this from TV but it was advertised on yahoo where I mostly email from. I was sucked in by the "all you have to pay is shipping". I also know in my case it wasn't the caffeine as I usually drink 3 cups of coffee a day and then follow that with about 7 cups of tea in the afternoon. Sometimes even more!

Citrus does give me migraine per my blood work so would bitter orange be a major citrus product? I would guess but not sure. I also greatly object to Oprah's acai berries! She probably bought too many of them and can't get rid of them so she is dumping them into this rip off product. However, Barbara Walters is involved in this mess too.

I say stick with KAL for being safe. Dr. Oz ought to be ashamed.

Reggia | 2549 comments Oh my, that's a lot of caffeine, Alice -- is that black tea you're drinking or something herbal? I guess you don't need a product to give you more. ;) Green tea doesn't bother me at all but I can only only have 1 cup of coffee a day, although I've gotten it down to 3-4 a week.

I can't figure out why they even have bitter orange in there...

Oprah's shows can be very informative, I think, although I confess I've only watched one in the past year. More often, I come across products being touted on the show online like the acai product you mentioned. Apparently many people are complaining about that particular one but I researched it and found somewhat of a disclaimer on her website. Not sure what to make of that but it seems the popularity did come from a broadcast of her show.

Anyway, I hate how some of these products are formulated and marketed. The acai is sold as an internal cleanse. Acai contains many antioxidants which really don't have much to do with cleansing but because it's the latest craze everyone wants to add a bit to their other products as a gimmick to boost sales.

I use the same milk thistle from Nature's Way. I no longer have my gallbladder but like many, take it for my liver. I maintain that what's good for liver is good for the gallbladder and vice versa.

I agree with you about milk thistle and I think Dr. Krohn does also in her book The Whole Way to Natural Detoxification but not positive. In Europe they have saved the livers of people who ate the death angel mushroom by giving them milk thislte IV's!

Caffeine is I feel far safer for me than taking albuteral. Albuteral is a powerful stimulant for asthma. Its kinda like having 30 cups of coffee!! Years ago I took even more powerful stuff like theophylline. People usually have no idea what asthma drugs are like unless they take them. I take miniuscule doses of albuteral and then another little molecule if the first one didn't work. It affects my mitral valve prolapse adversely but what can a person do? I used to have the world's worse PMS perhaps due to asthma drugs. I drink strong black tea for my asthma. I was once stung by a bee and my grandmother gave me black tea to stop my asthma attack from the bee sting and IT WORKED. Tea has a trace of theophylline in it. I only found that out about ten years ago.

I sure agree with you about the acai berries.

Reggia | 2549 comments Oops! have to correct myself about the milk thistle, it's Nature's Way but the one with the dark red cap. I thought the difference was the standardization but the purple cap claims the same. So why did I pay more?

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Sometimes I pay more too as at the moment its conveniet and I don't want to hunt around for a different one.

My Dr. got a big laugh out of the color of Dr Oz product as its so "electric".
