Although a let down, the film adaptation has some strong points

* Chris Issac's comedic performance as Tim Price's father

* Good score music as well as the work of Jason Falkner (the Bryan Metro song "Only You")

* The funeral sequence that was not in the book.

* the inventive ways the film ties together elements of the book:
- the kids in the cafe harassing Cheryl are the opening band for Bryan Metro
- Bryan Metro's concert is in Los Angeles instead of Japan
- Brad Renfro works at a hotel, not a car wash, so he is connected to Tim, Martin and Christie
- Etc

If I understood correctly, the filmmakers actually did shoot scenes for the vampire story with Brandon Routh as Jamie....and then this segment was removed sadly.

**Correction**
According to the Bret Easton Ellis podcast, those scenes were never shot.
