Anyone read Nancy Drew growing up? I know I did and I loved them. The mystery... the suspence... the characters. This is definately a series I want to revist! Anyone with me? Anyone else read them?

YES. I think we had all the normal ones, but then I started borrowing the Nancy Drew Files from the library too, where she's more grown up. I loved them! Hilarious to read them now though: "Nancy slipped into a beige jersey skirt and a turquoise turtleneck, then examined herself in front of the mirror. With her tall, slim frame, her auburn hair and bright green eyes, she could have been a model, but it had always been detective work that had interested her." (Not a direct quote, just my memory of scenes that would happen fairly often at the start of each book!)
lol, that is so funny, Josie. I thought it was a direct quote for sure. You could have been a ND writer... lol. I never read the Nancy Drew kids or the Nancy Drew files, only the originals. There was this other mystery series I read once that I liked as well, but I can't remember what it was called.
We had both Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldens, I preferred Trixie so have very few recollections of the Nancy books... but I must say they sound hilarious! That description reminds me of the one of Alex Ryder at the start of the Stormbreaker series: "Alex was 14 years old, tall for his age and already well-built, with the body of an athlete..." (AND naturally he also speaks several languages, does karate, is a whizz at maths and computers, etc etc.) Gotta love a good Mary Sue.
I read every single Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys book as a young girl. My grnadparents had the entire set with the yellow spines? I remember the 70's show as well. I was in LOVE with Shaun Cassidy, so....Honestly, I don't think I remember a single plot! They were pretty formulaic. I kind of imagine there was a MadLibs template, almost, for those mysteries, but they were certainly entertaining! They paved the way for Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen and Earle Stanley Gardner for my young mind.
Saved By Grace wrote: "The Hardy Boys, maybe? Bobbsey twins? Boxcar children?"I read the a couple Hardy Boys, no Bobbsey twins, and many Boxcar Children, but that isn't what I was thinking of. It was a little known seriest hat I found hidden in the library when I was younger.
Most of my childhood was spent reading Hardy Boys. Stopped reading them when I started getting the solutions to the mystery plot myself. Having said that, they were awesome and I'd still love to read it sometime.
I loved Nancy Drew. My mom has a bunch of the original 1930s books that her mother collected. They're going to be mine someday! I think my favorite was The Clue in the Crumbling Wall. I remember really really loving that one. Maybe I'll read it again for my book-I-loved-as-a-child task....
I have so many Nancy Drew books in storage at my parents' house. I used to love them as a kid! I always used to get in trouble for reading them right before bed, freaking myself out, and then being unable to go to sleep. I think I'll definitely have to give them another go sometime soon :)
I just bought a ton of Nancy Drew at a library booksale. Can we please talk about how fab her outfits are on every single cover? Also it's the 80th Anniversary of the release of Nancy Drew! So cool right?
And hey noticed the mention of the Hardy Boys, my boyfriend is actually re-reading them now. He keeps using the word swell, LOL.
I loved both the original Nancy Drew and the Nancy Drew Files series as well (actually read the former when they were new in the 80's,makes me feel old!!)! Read a few of Trixie Belden and The Bobbsey Twins, but Nancy was my favorite!! Read many, many of those books!!!
I loved the original Nancy Drew the best. It was my favorite series as a child. I can't believe it is the 80th anniversary of Nancy Drew. Wow!
Awww I LOVED Nancy Drew (she's pretty old huh - 98!) It is so cool that she is having her 80th anniversary! GO NANCY!!
Isn't amazing that some series are just as popular now as they were years ago. I love selling reprinted copy of original Nancy Drew to the girls here in Sheldon, Iowa. Many generations have read Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.
I love Nancy Drew. My best friend and I in grade school used to play Nancy Drew. We would make up these grand mysteries to solve and we make little fingerprint kits to carry around and stuff. Her family had this really old desk with secret campartments in it that we would stash stuff in. Such fond memories!
