Anyone read Klavan books?

message 2: by Maximillian (new)

Maximillian (maximillianthefirst) I read the homelanders

Yeah, they're probably his best series.

I've read Homelanders, Crazy Dangerous, If We Survive, The Identity Man, and I've read Killer In The Wind.

Can't wait!

Chris | 43 comments One question. And I want a Yes or No on that one. NO SPOILERS PLEASE! xD

The Homelanders series... a happy ending for Charlie? *crossing fingers*

message 6: by Maximillian (new)

Maximillian (maximillianthefirst) A yes or no answer would be a spoiler.

message 7: by Chris (last edited Jul 01, 2013 03:46PM) (new)

Chris | 43 comments A spoiler would be to reveal the ending in detail. ;)
So come on...

message 8: by Maximillian (new)

Maximillian (maximillianthefirst) But yes or no would reveal the end.

message 9: by Chris (last edited Jul 01, 2013 03:54PM) (new)

Chris | 43 comments aww... ok let me rephrase that. Was the ending... what we expected before reading the first book?

message 10: by Maximillian (new)

Maximillian (maximillianthefirst) I can not in good conscious reveal any part of the book because it is something that must be experienced without any foreknowledge

message 11: by Mojoboy31, Kitchen Ninja (new)

If you're asking whether the ending is satisfying, then imo, the answer is absolutely yes!

Thank you :D
Now I have a reason not to feel sad after finishing a book. I remember watching one movie by Ryan Reynolds... I was not satisfied with the ending.

Ok, I totally understand. I still like the suspense though. It's IMO better than the other book series with a similar plot Conspiracy 365.

Hey, no problem.

message 15: by Chris (last edited Jul 09, 2013 04:44PM) (new)

Chris | 43 comments Just finished the first book of Homelanders. Now let me bask in the afterglow of this deliciousness that was an epic book.

I'll start book 2 in the Fall. Yeah, I'm like that.

message 16: by Mojoboy31, Kitchen Ninja (new)

Mojoboy31 | 3210 comments Mod
Start book two now! lol. I'm telling you, book two is the best of the series, imo, and needs to be read A.S.A.P.

message 17: by Chris (new)

Chris | 43 comments That makes the anticipation even great. xD

message 18: by Mojoboy31, Kitchen Ninja (new)

Mojoboy31 | 3210 comments Mod
Do yourself a favor, and read it now, lol! Also, the series is best read in rapid succession, because all the clues are fresh in your mind.

message 19: by Chris (new)

Chris | 43 comments Ok you convinced me. Besides I couldn't just put down this book series and wait till Fall. That'll be torture. But then again there are other books in my home that I've yet to finish before returning them to the library.

On a lighter note, I am now officially a proud owner of the actual volume of the book series. Only $20 at my local bookstore.

message 20: by Chris (new)

Chris | 43 comments So I'm gonna have to return the Homelanders at the bookstore. I can't be stuck with this poor workmanship... of publishing work! Klavan is still a genius btw. Just that I'll miss out on the good scenes when I get there.

See what happened was I was skimming through it. Should've done that because of spoilers but it was a good thing that I did, or else I wouldn't have found out that my copy would send me back to PAGE 93 after PAGE 601. And then from 93 to 124, it goes back to 637. That's 36 pages of really good scenes I would miss out, like missing out on a really good TV show episode. >:(

So yeah I'm retuning it, hopefully I'll get another copy and let's hope it's not THAT messed-up again. :(

Did you guys had that kind of problem with the books you purchased?

message 21: by Mojoboy31, Kitchen Ninja (new)

Mojoboy31 | 3210 comments Mod
Oh, man, that's terrible!... No, I didn't purchase the series, but I've heard a lot of people complain about other "whole series volumes" before.

Who is this Andrew Klavan and what does he write about? :)

message 23: by Mojoboy31, Kitchen Ninja (new)

Mojoboy31 | 3210 comments Mod
Andrew Klavan writes serious adult fiction with a conservative/Christian worldview. But his adult novels are *adult*. Rated R language, rated R violence, rated R sexual content.

But he also writes Young Adult stories, and they are just flat-out awesome!
His first attempt was Last Thing I Remember: The Last Thing I Remember (The Homelanders #1) by Andrew Klavan

It grabs you on page one and will not let you go until you finish the whole series. Just read the description, you'll be hooked.

After that series, he's written a few standalone novels; my favorite of which is Crazy Dangerous: Crazy Dangerous by Andrew Klavan

Dee | 2703 comments Mod
Okay! I'll probably check out the YA novels. Are they limited in language, sex, and violence?

Oh, yeah. They are totally "clean". And have terrific Christian messages and themes. And are just simply awesome!

message 26: by Dee, YOU'RE A MOD!! (new)

Dee | 2703 comments Mod
Perfect! I don't really appreciate too much of the above stuff! And good Christian messages is always a plus! :)

Have any of them been made into movies?

They're making Last Thing I Remember into a movie, but aside from that, only his adult books have been made into movies.

message 29: by Dee, YOU'RE A MOD!! (new)

Dee | 2703 comments Mod
Okay, cool. I was just curious since Daniel said they'd make geat movies.

message 30: by Mojoboy31, Kitchen Ninja (new)

Mojoboy31 | 3210 comments Mod
I think Crazy Dangerous would make a terrific movie. And everybody should read that book.

@Dee: ha ha.

@Paige: true. He was inspiring, but so was Sam from Crazy Dangerous. And Nightmare City didn't have anywhere near as much dialogue, because Tom spent most the book by himself.
And Lisa was an epic character, but she really only got like two scenes out of the whole book.
