Hello all.. it's that time! Time to recommend a book to Stephen King. Is there something you read that you know he would just love??? One nomination per person please! Poll will be posted on the 25th.

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

The Skin Gods (Jessica Balzano & Kevin Byrne, #2) by Richard Montanari The Skin Gods. I think King would love this novel.

message 3: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Black "The Running Man" by Richard Bachmann. I feel like King would love this guy! Their books are pretty similar too.

Bachman and King are the same person, Matthew.

Summer of Night by Dan Simmons

message 6: by Rowan (new)

Rowan Mceldowney | 2 comments I nominate Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry Rot and Ruin

message 7: by Edward (new)

Edward Lazellari Awakenings by Edward Lazellari, because the author was heavily influenced by Mr. King Awakenings

message 8: by Soumyabrata (new)

Soumyabrata Gupta | 6 comments I really think that King might like reading Steve Rasnic Tem's novel Deadfall Hotel. A very 'Shining' esque novel, it makes for an interesting read.

Angie, what's our policy on author's self-promoting in the nomination thread?

I forget.

...too many groups.

message 10: by Larry (new)

Larry | 39 comments What about "On The Road" by Jack Kerouac? Has this one ever been discussed? Much in OTR to compare with many of King's books. What about maybe Dean Moriaty compared to "The Kid" or maybe even Flagg himself?

message 11: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (nonoddie) | 3 comments I'm fairly new to the group. Has Gerald's Game been done yet?

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Anastasia wrote: "I'm fairly new to the group. Has Gerald's Game been done yet?"

You can't nominate books King has written, Anastasia, only books by other authors that you think King would like.

message 13: by Brad (new)

Brad (millhouse) | 9 comments I suggest Summer of Night by Dan Simmons
Simmons can write in many different genres and styles, he amazes me. This book is probably the most "Kingesque" of his work, that I have read.

message 14: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelld79) | 44 comments I nominate Ghost Story by Peter Straub by Peter Straub. Being that King co-authors with him I'm sure he'd read his books :-)

message 15: by Kevin (last edited Jun 19, 2013 06:02PM) (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 219 comments I would like nominate Dorsai! by Gordon R. Dickson once more since it is also based on Robert Browning's poem Childe Roland To The Dark Tower Came, but it came out about 20 years earlier.

message 16: by Deno (new)

Deno Sandz I recommend Cry Heaven Cry Hell... The Return of Miss Mary Weather|17211369] by Deno Sandz

message 17: by Deno (new)

message 18: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments I think Stephen King should read DenMark Lane. It's a killer dark Horror Mystery novel.

message 19: by Donald (new)

Donald Scott (writeondon) Peter Straub's brilliant 'Ghost Story' - though am sure King's already read it. Ghost Story by Peter Straub

message 20: by Kumonee (new)

Kumonee | 7 comments Swan Song by Robert MCcammon-one of my favoites

message 21: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments Swan Song was a great one. I read that 12 yrs ago. It's one of my favorite films. It sort of reminded me of The Stand.

message 22: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments I mean favorite books, LOL

message 23: by Sabrina (last edited Jun 19, 2013 06:41PM) (new)

Sabrina (azariie) | 1 comments Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist

The construction of the characters, different povs and development of the relationships instantly remind me of King's writing style. I'm pretty sure he would enjoy it.

message 24: by Tee (new)

Tee There's a really cool novel written by Margaret Atwood called The Edible Woman that I think King would really love. Written in the late 60s, it tackles a woman's urge to break free of society's norms inflicted upon her. It documents some of her descent into a sort of madness that I can only describe as pure Atwood. Anyone who's read The Handmaid's Tale, which I know King loved, would be familiar with her style and prose.

message 25: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.

message 26: by Jenelle (new)

Jenelle Compton | 10 comments Bryan wrote: "Swan Song was a great one. I read that 12 yrs ago. It's one of my favorite films. It sort of reminded me of The Stand."

I think the group read the book back in October 2012.

message 28: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments Yeah sorry about the Swan Song movie. I miss typed. I'd love to see one some day.

message 29: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 747 comments Ghost Story was read by the group last year, too.

message 30: by Daisy (new)

Daisy Tinklepants | 2 comments The Parent Killer by Ashley Blake

message 31: by Joe (new)

Joe Joe Hills new one NOS4A2 just came out.

message 32: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments Looking forward to reading that. I've read his two previous novels and his collection of short stories. He's great.

message 33: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments The Thief of Always by Clive Barker. This is the only novel I've read in one sitting. Loved it!

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

How about Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell? Very different to King but almost Steinbeck-esque who I know King loves.

This was one of the best horror novels I've ever read. I would be surprised if King hasn't already read it.

I like the idea of Cloud Atlas. Been wanting to read that one.

message 37: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Higby (bryanhigby) | 9 comments I just finished Cloud Atlas it was really good. I felt that some sections were much more interesting than others. I'm looking forward to the film.

message 38: by Steven (new)

Steven Farmer (sfarmer76) | 9 comments I think Stephen King would love 'Taipei' by Tao Lin. Contemporary fiction with an outsider edge.

message 39: by Bondama (new)

Bondama (kerensa) | 868 comments I've noticed that there are several nominations for books written by Dan Simmons, of whom King has long been a major fan.

But, instead of "Summer of Night" - which is almost a King book itself, I'd nominate The Terror--- simply because it's extremely unusual and very frightening. It's the first horror book set in the area of the North Pole that I've ever read.

I think that either this one, or Carrion Comfort -- One of the top 10-15 horror books I've ever been glued to!

message 40: by Squire (last edited Jun 20, 2013 07:07AM) (new)

Squire (srboone) | 95 comments Loved Carrion Comfort! A few clichéd characters and narrative issues aside, it's a tremendous novel. One of the most satisfying denouements to a book I ever read.

Yes, The Terror had also been on my TBR list for a long time! Great nominations so far!

message 42: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtney129) | 2 comments I think Stepping stone by Walter Mosley would be a good book for Stephen King to read because it has all the social issues, human elements adn the right amount of mystry and drama that he normally writes about

message 43: by Eric (new)

Eric | 15 comments House of Leaves by....someone whose name i cant recall...

message 44: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kcanty313) | 747 comments Eric, great book. It's by Mark Z. Danielewski
