I know a lot of you get your books from the library, or buy them on your e-readers, but for those of us who still love our physical copies, where do you buy your books? Do you pay full price or buy them used? What was your last great book deal?

I rarely pay full price for a book (I'm cheap), unless it's a new release. Under $5 is usually my spending limit.

My last great book haul was at a book sale earlier this year. I bought Wings of the Wicked (Angelfire, #2) by Courtney Allison Moulton (hardback, used, new condition) Shadows in the Silence (Angelfire, #3) by Courtney Allison Moulton (hardback, used, new condition), Pandemonium (Delirium, #2) by Lauren Oliver (hardcover, new condition), Hades (Halo, #2) by Alexandra Adornetto (paperback, used, new condition), and Unraveling (Unraveling, #1) by Elizabeth Norris (paperback, used, new condition).

I paid a dollar for each book. I also buy books at thrift shops (just got Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie for $2.95) or used at bookstores.

So tell me about where you buy your books, or your last epic book deal!

Heather Holland | 7 comments I get my books full price. Sometimes I would go to Sam's Club and they would have books 10% off from the BAMM stores. I also have a BAMM card and a BN card for deals like that.

I get books at Sam's sometimes too:) their book ARE alot cheaper. This book I once wanted was 21.99 at B&N and 16.99 at Sam's.

I will forever love B&N tho <3

Rebekah | 19 comments Cheapest book I got was 75 cents plush Shipping and handling. Go to amazon.com and go to their bargain books section and from there you can pick genres or books under 5, 10, or 15 dollars

message 5: by Lina (new)

Lina (booksnotlovers) I get my books at the local bookstore. But they are pretty expensive because I live in norway and taxes and stuff(ugh). I tend to go in when they are about 50 per cent off, or a buy 2 get 3 sale. But I also use cdon.com, which have a lot of offers. But books are generally expensive here.

message 6: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) I get most of my books from my local library's book sale they usually charge &1 for hardcovers and $.50 for paperbacks... even books in bad conditions as long as all the pages are there I try to recover them so they can look good as new. If I were to go to a book store I would go to books a million and look at their bargains.

Wow, I thought everything was more expensive here, but it's only about a dollar for a library sale here as well. There is one now, and I looked it up and down but couldn't find anything I wanted. Libraries here tend to put up the books no one wants to read...

Right now my favorite online store has a sale for the Game of Thrones books. They cost about 30 dollars(180 kr) for the set. If I were to buy them one by one, I would have to pay about 100 dollars (600 kr). And I'm seriously contemplating the meaning of life right now.

message 8: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 1 comments I found a hard back copy of Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein and a copy of Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia at a TJ Maxx. One was 10 dollars and BC was only 5.

I usually wait for them to go down in price on Amazon though. I try not to buy full price at the bookstore, but sometimes I can't help it.

Well here I am the technology coordinator and the cataloger at my public library and if the covers are damaged in a bad way or we already have a copy we have very limited space so we sell them and they are pretty cheap we encourage people to read so much... we even had a fifty shades of grey book in the sale for $.50 just cause there was two pages falling out

That is great, actually! Here we have like the Royal History of Norway in the Most Boring Way Possible. Those kind of books. Or those forgotten fiction books that were sold to book clubs because no real publisher wanted them.

Haha! I avoid used as well, I think we have the same thing going on. The only books I will buy used are school books and plays (seeing as plays are riddonkulously expensive)

message 12: by Lina (new)

Lina (booksnotlovers) Chimney wrote: "Same, or if the book is out of print and either super impossible or super expensive to get as new. The price of school books has always made me cringe."

Even the paperback school books are super expensive. My theatre history book cost what must be about 100 dollars (600NOK), just because it's a school book. And I was just like. I can get six paperbacks for that. Ten if I'm good.

message 13: by Ken (new)

Ken (kanthr) Books constantly make me feel broke. I don't buy cheap copies unless I want a second copy to lend around and not care if it gets beat up. Typically I buy from Biblio sellers or Amazon. I never go in to physical bookstores anymore because there are simply no good ones in my area. We've got lots of terrible chain stores that have lots of inventory and poor selection.

I also always buy at least two at once to save on shipping.

message 14: by Shannon (new)

Shannon BAM, Walmart, a Booktrader store near me, and ebay.

Ken (kanthr) Chimney wrote: "Augh, I am so glad I don't have to buy school books anymore. I remember when I was taking culinary and the book was around $300."
I remember thinking this too.

Then I started buying books that had nothing to do with uni which cost nearly as much.

Amber | 5 comments I usually buy my books new, but twice a year there is a HUGE Friends of the Library sale that seems to keep my reading habit at bay for awhile. This April I loaded myself down with about 30 and paid only $22!

Bookishlor My hometown library has paperbacks for $0.25-$0.50 and hardbacks $1-$2 so I tend to stock up while visiting the parents. My mom goes to estate sales. Sounds crazy but she walks out with boxes of books (some to be recycled later). My fave is Half Price Books which just sent out some coupons this week!! Got a bag of books for about $10. I am a frequent purchaser of the el cheapo racks outside the door and the hidden clearance in the back. Never pay full price even at Half Price! Everything will go on sale eventually..

message 27: by Ken (new)

Ken (kanthr) Estate sales are great opportunities to snag amazing rare books.

That is basically the story of my life, sweetie. We're all going to die in libraries so full of books we'll never get to read them.

message 35: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) I know I want a room just to my self just for books... lol I am so sad haha I hit the YA section in that store and said ok I can stay here for a few years where is my cot to sleep on haha

message 36: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) Here is a question when do you buy a book after you have read it or before I have had the thought of after I get it and read it from the library the I will getting it if I like it enough... but after I have read it I wanna move on to something else.

message 37: by Lina (new)

Lina (booksnotlovers) Do you mean if I buy books when I've already read them? In that case, no. But mostly because I buy most of my books before I read them.

message 43: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) haha nice that is so epic... I bought this one last night just based off of the cover details...

Tales of the Otherworld (Otherworld Stories, #II) by Kelley Armstrong

message 44: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) even though it is number 2 in the series it looked too good to pass up for $7

message 45: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) I agree the cover has to catch my eye first then the details on the cover have to be interesting then I may take it and sit to read a chapter before buying it

message 46: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) If I had the money I could have easily spent $1,000 last night

message 47: by Kaitlyn (new)

message 48: by Bookishlor (new)

Bookishlor I don't think I have enough room in my house for $1000 worth of books...or the money. Danggit. :/

message 49: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Watson (scrubbie) yes I agree. I am in love with the idea of having my own personal library in my house filled will all of the books I like.

message 50: by Lina (new)

Lina (booksnotlovers) I live in a tiny flat, with a room the size of Harry Potters cupboard under the stairs. No room for bookshelves. At all. Now my books are stacked in various places in my dresser. But I always buy more, because I can always take them home to my mom's if they get out of hand.
