I read The Westing Game, by Ellen Raskin, when I was about 13.

It won the Newberry in 1979.

An eccentric multimillionaire dies and 16 people are invited to the reading of the will - and what a very odd will it is, too!

The Westing Game is not a straight "crime" novel - though it is certainly a mystery. I'm not sure I've ever read a YA crime novel.

I saw this as a movie but I never read the book. The movie was really interesting... I think that I own the book so maybe I will have to read it sometime when I have time!

Whoa, there is a movie?? I remember reading this in class in 6th grade but I can't remember if we finished it.

I had no idea there was a movie, either! Who was in it?

I read this one in 6th grade as well, but I didn't remember much about it, so I'm re-reading it for the Spring Challenge. I'm actually listening to it as an audiobook -- the narrator is great, and the story is a good one. I'd recommend it!

I read this for the Spring Challenge, too, and thought it was pretty good. I'm interested to see the movie, so I'll have to see if it's available. I've been reading the 39 Clues series, which has a similar vibe, but the main characters travel the world figuring out the clues. (I'm really enjoying this series, but must say that it's appropriate for readers who are pretty young - perhaps 8 and up.)

I loved this book when I read it almost 13 yrs ago! It is probably time for a re-read as I sure I've forgotten much of the plot.

I think I read this in about 5th grade. My whole little class loved it so much we fought over who got to check it out each week at the school library. That's all I remember about it. I've had it on my tbr to be re-read for a while.

The premise sounds like the movie/game Clue, which I love.

YAY, I just looked on my bookshelf and descovered (much to my delight) that I have this book. I might need to read it soon!

I just finished my audiobook of this one. I didn't really remember much about it from when I read it in school, just that I liked it. I'm really glad I re-read this one -- it's a clever story, and I was pleased by the ending. I think this would be a fun book to teach to a group of kids...there's so much you can do with it.

I LOVE this book, and am considering teaching it to my students next year, if I can get my school to buy copies. Glad to see so many enthusiasts for it.

The Westing Game is one of my favorite YA books. I read it with both of my kids when they were upper elementary/lower middle school age and they enjoyed it, too. It's about time for a re-read on it.
