LinBee I figured since it was about a girl on a ship, it was action adventure. The book is by Avi, and one of my favorites. I read it every couple of years. It is so exciting. A young "proper" girl who becomes...a pirate (well, it isn't stated so, but you can tell that is what they are.)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 44 comments I remember reading this book back in the day. I can't remember for the life of me anything about it but I sure did love it. I think maybe it is still at my dad's house. I shall try and find it so I can read it again.

Ashley (affie) | 468 comments I love this book! I finished it, and made my 2 good friends read it right after me, who also loved it! Such a great story! And, I love the ending!

Shannon (shannoncb) I read this in grade 7 and it became one of my favourite books! Years went by and I never forgot it, but I couldn't remember the exact title or who wrote it - but now I have a copy!

It was very exciting and Charlotte was a great role model. I loved the ending too!

message 5: by Melissa (new) - added it

Melissa (melitious) I read this back in elementary school. It has popped up a couple of times around goodreads lately and I'm thinking about reading it again. I remembered the cover well but can't remember a whole lot of the story. I'll have to see if my library has it.

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I really loved this book back in elementary/middle school. Maybe this will have to be my reread for the challenge...

Tahleen | 229 comments I remember when I read this that I got a craving for biscuits because Charlotte seemed to eat them all the time in the beginning. So I got a box of Girl Scout cookies :)

haha thats really funny! What kind of GS cookie?? My favorite is the Thin Mints!

Tahleen | 229 comments That's my favorite too, but they weren't biscuity enough for me haha. I snuck a box of the square shortbread ones with animals on them and chocolate on the back, I forget what they're called (are they even still around?).

Michelle mmm, thin mints... Charlotte was one of my kids' favorite "read alouds" at our house. Such adventure, love a lot of Avi books.

Misty | 1505 comments When I was in 6th grade, my teacher chose this for me to read, and I remember not being enthusiastic about it at all. She thought I'd like it, I thought it looked like a "boy book" and I didn't want to read about people on a ship...
She was right. I loved it, and I bought a copy and reread it a few years ago, and when I teach (if I teach around that grade level), I will probably assign it. This book was my first lesson in learning to broaden my horizons and take recommendations for things I would never pick up on my own.

LinBee I remember we read it for a read-aloud in 5th grade, and I never forgot it. I re-read it, I think the end of last year. I still love it 15 years later!

Amanda (writers_soul) Read this book in 5th grade and I LOVED it. We also read it in 7th grade for class.
