There are circular tables all around the room that sit up to eight people.

Instead of letting his eyes sweep through the room, Basil decided to take a seat. If anyone decided they wanted to talk to him, they could--but he wasn't going to seek people out just yet, that would be too easy. He'd already seen a lot of familiar faces, and when he saw faces, that meant he had the urge to sketch them. It might not be the best time or place, but really, what else was there to do? It's not like he wanted to dance or go gossip by the fountain (yeah, he'd noticed Lydia and Vivian over there earlier. Then Sadie... nothing good ever happened with those three in the same vicinity).

So Basil flattered his book out onto the table, sitting at one of the many tables by himself. He glanced around for a moment, fiddling with the pencil tucked behind his ear.

( ˘ ³˘)♥ Jay Walking into the dining area, Jarret waltzed over to a table and pulled up a chair. Sitting down he took a large bite out of the sandwich on his table, very nice. Very very nice. The best part about these dances was that it had the best kinds of food. That was a benefit of rich person school, the food was always amazing. Swallowing his food he took a drink of soda and then looked up to see Basil at a table fiddling with a pencil tucked behind his ear, and that book flipped open. What was it that was in that book anyway? Getting up he left behind his plate and sat beside Basil with a smile, "Glad for the new year?"

Basil had been staring at Jarret with a confused expression for a good thirty seconds before he actually seemed to notice him. He wasn't sure why he suddenly decided to grant Basil with his company, but he was neither irritated nor pleased. Indifference was a more accurate measurement to his emotion. He didn't do the whole only-socialize-with-your-team thing anyway, which was probably why Jarret sought him for company. "Of course, I can't wait to begin the games. Last one to live and all that nonsense." he joked, closing his book.

( ˘ ³˘)♥ Jay Jarret nodded, obvious reference to the hunger games. Ha. Yeah right. If these were the hunger games then the black gavels were districts 1 and 2. Seeing as how Basil closed the book, Jarret's curiosity was only heightened. Hmm, now why would Basil feel the need to hide the book? What was in that thing. Of course he and Basil weren't the best of friends. It wasn't as if they had many thoughts in common and what not. It was just that well they'd had classes together, from what he remembered they had never been thrown together for any projects or anything. He knew the guy had been here all four years though. That was just that. "The games should be fun. Sadie always makes them interesting."

yael I feel like a fat ass, he thought when he walked in. No lie, he really did. He just arrived from the entrance and didn't mingle with anyone else - just instantly came here. Marshall simply took a cup of punch and sat at an empty table. Marshall took a sip of his punch, surveying the people that appeared in the dining area before him. They were of a different team - not good. It would be practically social suicide if he talked to them. To anyone other than a Green Dymia, in fact. Though no one from his team were there at the moment, well that's what he assumed. But even so, he wasn't mentally prepared to take that risk yet. People in Kale had such big mouths. Setting the cup down, Marshall drummed his fingers on the table unconsciencely. Boring. Just as he expected it to be.

Me, Myself, and I | 140 comments Hadley slipped in along with the dark haired girl, glancing around nonchalantly so as not to look quite as much of a stalker as she was. Pushing the ring on a random finger and twisting it around, her blonde hair fell over her gray eyes as she looked around the room. What now, Had? Ack, why had she bothered to come to this thing? Seriously, it made the whole 'joining a new school' all the more hard when you weren't being forced to at least sit next to someone. Her eyes continued wondering around the room even as she thought all this. Sweeping over two guys at a table, one with a book and pencil, and another table with the dark haired girl seated beside another guy. Realizing she was that awkward chick standing there, no doubt looking as confused as a little kid in the lingerie section, she started toward a table. "My God, it's like the eighth grade dance all over again." The words were said with a half smile to herself, somewhat under her breath, as she headed toward a chair.

@Jay&MMI

Noticing Jarret's eyes on his book, Basil nonchalantly slid it under the table into his lap. He didn't like when people noticed his little leather bound imagination, it made him feel uncomfortable. As soon as someone looked at it, he automatically pictured everything he'd written in it being exploited to the population of Kale. Yeah, that was enough to keep him up at night. But it's not like he could part with it either, that would leave him even more paranoid.

"Sadie? I also love having her around, it makes me seem like less of an ass." he smirked, leaning back in his chair.

Matthew manage to throw something decent to wear to the welcome Dance, not really wanting to be here either. Not that he doesn`t enjoy a Dance but he was suppose to be getting a skype call from his baby sister back home at the hospital. If you knew anything about Caroline its difficult to get her in front of the computer. She hates sitting in place to long and if you do she refuse to look at the computer screen. With a sigh Matthew scanned the kind of empty Dining room for someone to sit next to. It would be embarrassing, for him, to be sitting alone like some loser or a something. His eyes landed on a beautiful girl sitting all alone at a table and looking a little cross. Hmmm Lets try this little beauty., Matthew thought and made a bee-line to her. "Hey there. Would you like to help me with something?" He ask politely with a smile on his face. Matthew still has necklace in his own hand and need some 'help' with putting it on.

message 10: by Jmart (new)

Jmart Matthew couldn`t help himself but chuckles at Augusta very direct, blunt, and a little hurtful answer. Oh! His heart! OUCH! She has stab him in the chest with her sharp daggers, tongue, and made him bleed. But not enough to make him leave, oh no, he wasn`t leaving just yet. Augusta just perk his interest in her now. "If only its that easy hon, but you know as well as me that these people aren`t the 'friendly' type. They`re all are arm to the teeth with insults that they carry them in extra bags." Matthew told her before settling himself down next to her. He scooted his chair a little to the side, a habit he gotten from his sister, before unchaining his necklace. "So how are you doing on this very painful night? Did someone particularly crossed you or . ." He made an gesture to something else.

message 11: by Jmart (new)

Jmart " Ow." Matthew said rubbing his chest a little like she physically hit him. He flash her a smile before he put on his necklace with a purple jewel in the center. It took him a few tries to put the necklace but he manage without Augusta help. "I can't be that bad to sit next, well not as bad as being at the welcome dance thought. You better not say otherwise. I don't think I can handle another stab in the heart by your words." Matthew joked. While looking her over he try to rack his mind for a name. He has been here for two years now and knows mostly everyone here. Unless she was new then it could be the reason why he haven't figure out her name.

( ˘ ³˘)♥ Jay @ Sara&Rose:

So the book definitely had something worthwhile hidden inside. Why else would Basil hide it like it was his inner soul and Jarret was the devil about to snatch it? Didn't seem like such an ass? Hmm that was interesting. "Sadie makes the devil look saintly." Luckily there would be no more talk of Sadie, who like any demon seemed to appear wherever she was being talked about. She had the worst timing, luckily though the girl sitting down at the table seemed to have rather good timing. She was cute....she also was new. Interesting. Smiling at the girl, who was sitting on the other side of Basil about a chair away from the guy, he nodded. "You a senior?" He didn't see a ring on her, but it could've been on her fingers, hard to tell since her hands were under the table at the moment.

Me, Myself, and I | 140 comments @Jay&Rosie:

Hadley tugged a chair out from it's position under the table, plopping down even as her brown gray eyes continued wondering around the room. Never stopping at one place for too long, because, well, that was Had for you. Pausing, she glanced over at the two boys again, catching 'Sadie' and 'devil.' Wee. Wasn't that darling? Kale was looking welcoming already. "Sadie: Devil. Remind me to stay away from the charmer." While most people would perhaps be a bit bashful about barging into another's conversation, Hadley had absolutely no problem with it.

One of her many lovely traits, it would appear.

Realizing one of the guys had actually directed a question to her, her graying copper eyes met his green ones. He was quite cute, though the other guy had more of a brooding appearance. Which, you know, was cool. Ah, who was she kidding, she was a sucker for the type who looked like they were holding deep, dark secrets. Holding out her hand to inspect the ring on her finger with a forest-colored gem, she grinned. "It would appear so." Slipping off her beanie, she set it on the table before her, raking a hand through her chopped blonde locks. "I'm Hadley, by the way."

message 14: by Jmart (new)

Jmart @Maddie: Sorry lunch time for my baby cousin I'm babysitting.

Matthew consider her question seriously, kinda. Why was he really sitting here? He really didn't have an real answer to her question that will satisfy her. With a shrug and look over at her with a funny grin. " A little bit of both. I'm just like that and your pretty, alone, and just guess you wanted some company to your pouting party."

@MMI&Jaylala

Basil drew his attention away from Jarret, instead directing it at the girl who just happened to sit a chair away from him. What was he, a poster child for the welcoming of other team members? Since when had he become the idol of any type of socialization database? No matter the sudden turn in events, Basil was easy going with the difference. He leaned back in his chair, saying nothing as Jarret turned on the charm. He wasn't going to be competition, he wasn't nearly as interested as he seemed to be.

Though as she spoke, Basil studied the girl, eyes traveling over her features. She seemed to carry herself well for a fresh meat... she'd be popular amongst the bitchs in no time. He smirked at the thought, and his eyes went to the table--he wouldn't be caught in the realization he had. That would be something he'd write about, not something he'd voice. He still couldn't help but smile though, amusing himself with his own inner monologue.

( ˘ ³˘)♥ Jay @ Sara&Rose:

Green. Dymia. Not his team, and while Jarret didn't care much for teams. He still had a feeling that this girl was not his type of girl. Besides, whereas Basil seemed to be fascinated with the table. Jarret had been watching Hadley's eyes and seen how they had skipped over himself and glued themselves to Basil. Basil was her type then. The Sardonic Brooding type. Hmmm now that was interesting. Especially since judging from her appearance she didn't seem the type to fall in with the toxics or anything like that. Nope. She seemed.....fresh.

Although that could've been because she was new. "Jarret. And he's Basil." Well since Basil hadn't introduced himself, he might as well. Besides it would've been rude if he had just sort of introduced himself and ignored Basil. Basil was going to be a part of the conversation if it killed the guy. Why? Because Jarret wasn't going to allow his friendliness be mistaken as flirting. And with another guy in the conversation it wasn't flirting.

Me, Myself, and I | 140 comments @Jay&Rose:

Hadley glanced between Mr. Green Eyes, Jarret, and Mr. Brood-y, Basil. Were they dating anyone? She had long since decided, if not, it was her job to change that. Not personally, of course. Ahaha. No. But it was fun playing matchmaker and she was more than certain she would be a good cupid. Basil appeared more bored than anything though and Jarret seemed like he was trying hard to simply remain polite. Yeah, so getting them to open up about their love lives didn't seem like it'd be in the cards anytime soon. Damn. There went that idea.

Oh well. On to more boring, common topics than.

"How long have you guys been coming to Kale? Seems more like a castle than an actual school." At the words, her wide eyes glanced around the room. Seriously though, the place was huge. It was more or less twice the size of her old school and that would mean getting acquainted with directions would be utter hell. She legitimately had no clue how she was going to be able to find her way to all her classes when the time came. But eh, she'd worry about that when the time came.

For a moment, Marshall admired her confidence, shooting a casual ‘nothing much’ her way. She must have been a newbie, hence why Marshall did recall seeing her face anywhere around school. Freshman, maybe? He didn’t know, he didn’t see any trace of a bracelet on her wrist. "The food, yes. But the people, no. Not many of them are interesting," he stated with a shrug of his shoulders. He analyzed her movements, noting how she took food from a plate that he hasn’t seen before. Damn, she could eat. Marshall didn’t find it grotesque, she actually had manners while eating, it was just the large portions that she ate. The action brought a smile to his lips, recalling how his mother would eat a lot at home, effortlessly maintaining her womanly physique. Snapping out of his thoughts, he glanced curiously at the girl, "What’s your name, anyway? I don't remember seeing you around Kale..." he asked. For the most part, he tried to keep it casual, trying to get the information he needed - nothing more, nothing less. Hopefully whatever accessory she wore, with whatever gem or inscription that indicated her team, did not appear to anyone if it was other than Green Dymias. If someone found out, he was done for.

Well, excuse me.

Basil gave Jarret a threatening look, shaking his head in a small movement. He was soooo not being brought into this conversation, and he figured he knew exactly what Jarret was trying to do. Basil was fine with sitting there, fiddling his thumbs in boredom. He didn't need to be introduced to Miss Hadley, and he certainly didn't need to answer any of her questions. Green Dymias? No thanks. They were all a lot of bitches--not that the Black Gavels weren't... but still.

He sighed to himself, bringing his eyes back to the table... silently.

( ˘ ³˘)♥ Jay @ Sara&Rose:

Oh yes, he saw the look that Basil shot him, he just chose to ignore the look, well more of a glare. He wasn't the kind of guy to just give up so easily. Besides it wasn't as though Basil could've expected to come to the dance and not have to socialize. Socializing was a part of Kale as much as money was. It was just the way that Kale worked. Surely Basil knew that by now. Certainly he had some sort of 'happy face' he could put on. Or he could talk or something.

At Hadley's words Jarret shrugged, "Long enough. But let's not talk about something so mundane and boring. Let's talk about something far more interesting than that, something like where you're from. Why you chose to come to Kale. If you're interested in Basil here. What countries you've visited. The normal stuff people gossip about." Smiling brightly at the girl he was hoping to catch her off guard a bit. Although she really didn't seem the type.

Me, Myself, and I | 140 comments Hadley's gaze followed between them both, catching Basil's glare and Jarret pointedly ignoring him. Well now, didn't that put her in a rather awkward position? Of course, the thought never registered upon her face- Fake it 'til you make it, right? "Nah, I get my daily fix of brooding on television. But I'm sure he has 'em lined up." The words were said with a grin, no falter whatsoever in her voice as she reached up, sweeping a few locks of hair back behind her ear. She was getting the sense that Basil wasn't too impressed with her and that was okay: Some people found her to be a little too high maintenance. Which was more or less true.

Recalling Jarett's mention about why she was here at Kale, where she'd come from, was enough to make her freeze though. Telling people about her diagnosis was on a last resort basis only. Forcing a smile, she grabbed her hat and slipped it back on. "I mean, I suppose I could tell you about myself. But what would be the fun in that?" And with that, she stood up, pushing the chair back. "Don't stop the gossip on my account, though. Thanks for putting up with the newbie." Slipping away from the table just like she'd come, alone and thinking, where to now?

"I course I have luv, it doesn't take an idiot to tell since your rounding waves of back-effing-off to anyone who is mere five feet of you." Matthew told her bluntly as he push up his sleeves and revealing his very curious tattoo. It was a single puzzle piece wrap around by an orange ribbon with a name of Caroline across it. He ran his hand through his hair and yawns. Maybe he should leave behind this gray cloud before she rain down on his parade, but he really didn't want to go back out to the dance. Unless he can find his good friend who is a girl. "You know the only reason your so grumpy pant over there is because your allowing yourself to wallow in your foul mood. My name is Matthew by the way and I hope you tell me your name but I have a feeling you will think its a wistful thinking on my part."

Me, Myself, and I wrote: "Hadley's gaze followed between them both, catching Basil's glare and Jarret pointedly ignoring him. Well now, didn't that put her in a rather awkward position? Of course, the thought never register..."

Closing his eyes when Jarret threw his name into the mix, Basil just clenched his fists under the table. He wouldn't give Jarret any sort of satisfaction out of irritating him, that would probably only encourage him to be an ass. Though he wasn't so sure about Hadley, she was probably amused. Either that, or she simply didn't care. She didn't have to be a mind reader to guess the situation here, he could tell by her eyes she was smart, if not cunning.

Basil ignored her as she spoke, but his eyes pulled upwards when she said brooding. Why was that everyone's choice description of him for the hour? He shrugged it off internally, focusing instead on Jarret again. He looked like that had gone exactly as he'd wanted it to... how lovely.

When Hadley got up to leave, Basil followed suit. He'd also had enough of this conversation. "That was rude." he remarked, pulling the back of Jarret's chair as he passed--simultaneously catching his leg on the chair's foot. He didn't look back as he heard the crash of Jarret hitting the floor along with the chair, he only smirked as he walked away.

"Augusta." Matthew repeated, testing out the name on his own tongue. It really was a beautiful name. "What a beautiful name for a equally beautiful girl like yourself. . . beside the attitude though." He said as he stare off to the darkness and following the students moment. "Are you planning to sit here all night?" Since sitting here was equally as boring and lame as being alone he wonder if he could coax Augusta into dancing. See if this stick in the mud can move, not jerk, but move nicely. Glancing at her from the corner of his eyes he wonder if he just grab her and drag her off to the floor if she refuse.

message 25: by Jmart (new)

Jmart @Maddie

Matthew sighs deeply and ran a hand through his already messy hair. Augusta was one tough cookie to crack and it started to become clear who she was. Well type of personality in this school anyways. Her scowl deepen further then he ever thought anyone can make. . .beside his sister. Caroline only does this when someone gets to close to her and repeatedly tries to get her something she just doesn`t want to do. Then she just snap and start screaming. With that thought Matthew couldn`t help but push up his sleeve to look at the tattoo he gotten just for her. "Be careful Augusta, you will cause some wrinkles to appear on your pretty face of yours. Just ask my sister, she has wrinkles all over her forehead." Matthew chuckles at that, wasn`t exactly true but it gets his sister to rub her forehead.

message 26: by Jmart (new)

Jmart Took a few seconds for her words to sink in for Matthew realize Augusta had said anything. He glance up at her and raise an eyebrow at her, surprise she cared enough to ask. He still didn't answer her until he decided that he should even answer her. The last thing he needed is this chick to bad mouth his tattoo. From everything she said she probably didn't have a filter connected to that pretty mouth on her. If Augusta bad mouth about his tattoo. . .well you don't lets say things will become ugly. "The blue puzzle stands for Autism speaks organization and the orange ribbon stand for Leukemia. Caroline, is my baby sister."

“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” he replies with a slight shake of his head. He suspected that she was a scholarship kid, by the choice of her words. Though it would be kind of obvious - a scholarship will make more of an effort to hide that fact. “First year, as in freshman?” Marshall asked, which was accompanied by a slight raise of his eyebrow. This girl was not bad who have a conversation with. She did change subjects and played it smoothly. Marshall had to give her credit, but he respected her; and taking that fact into consideration he didn’t make any me on her. Not yet anyway. That was what he was known for in Kale. Marshall was currently dating someone, who was formerly his best friend, so he was free to mingle with whom ever he chooses. No one in students knew, they only noted how he only gives a week for anyone he dates. For some reason, even when most were aware of that fact, they still asked to date him; didn’t it seem kind of slutty? “Nice to meet you...Ace,” he says pondering over her name. “Seems kind of strange for a girl; my naje is Marshall Leroy. Yeah, it’s kinda long so just call me Marshall,” he says with a slight twitch of the corner of his mouth.

( ˘ ³˘)♥ Jay Jarret wasn't left with the chance to respond to Basil's comment on him being 'rude'. Not that it really bothered Jarret that much anyway. He was used to the insult anyway, plenty of rich kids that had traveled the world told him he was rude all the time. Said it was an 'american thing'. Whatever that meant. All Jarret knew was one moment he was sitting and the next he had fallen over and was instead on his back, looking up at the ceiling, the chair he had been sitting on underneath him. To make matters better a girl called over to him, winking as she said something about eating his food. Well that was great. Just great. Frowning he sighed and put his hands behind his head, looking up at the ceiling for a moment, he was in no real hurry to get up. After a moment though he rolled over and stood up, picking up the chair as well and putting it in its rightful place. Basil knocked him over for what? The guy should've been glad, Jarret just made it clear that Basil was likeable. How? Beyond him. Still, you'd think the guy would've been a bit pleased. Not knock his chair over. How rude. Lips pursed slightly he left the dining hall, Basil would make up for this sometime during the year.

He didn't exactly feel like socializing and no wanted to approach his gloomy an intimidating self. It was mostly the scar, combined with his height and peeved expression that kept onlookers at bay. Even the rather cheerful clothing his mother had insisted he wore didn't seem to help. Glancing around the table once more, he sighed. There were eight seats, but he highly doubted that there would be a day when seven people would dare sit beside him. There used to be days though, that a table such as this one would be overflowing simply because he was there, but those days were long gone.

Gedeon noted that her Token indicated she was a Black Gavel, like himself, but other than that, she seemed like a true mystery to him. The reality was that he had grown up with his mother inviting them to all sorts of dinner parties associated with her work, and he had grown into a spectacular dancer. However, nowadays, he wasn't really as social as he used to be so he no longer really went for that kind of thing, plus there were all those fights he got into, and then, when he was in school, he found himself with tons of homework and soccer practice. Needless to say, dancing wasn't exactly his highest priority.

Hmm even if he did prefer to stay alone it would make her feel guilty for not trying to get him involve. "I know you said this wasn't your thing but would you like to dance with me? I promise I won't step in your toes," She held out her pinky. "And we don't even have to go to the dance floor, we could just dance here if you like,"There was some empty space and most everyone had already left.

After all, being known as the principal's nephew likely came with all sorts of stereotypes and unnecessary expectations. However, knowing his uncle, the teachers were likely well aware of his situation. As for her offer to dance... Well, who was he to refuse the wishes of a pretty girl? He might act like a jerk to most guys, and sometimes girls, but he had a feeling he'd severely regret it if he treated this one that way.

As he did so he took note of the fact that her ring marked her as a senior, and therefore likely about his age. After all, though he was only a Sophomore, if he was in the right grade, he'd be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Junior since his birthday was the day after the cut off date apparently. He never really put much thought into age though, mostly because he hadn't ever dated anyone, and when if came to friends, age didn't really seem to matter.

Most people were taller than her. She wasn't a midget just short and everyone else freakishly tall. "Well then I say we shall go,"She gave a small curtsy and giggled softly. She was excited, she hadn't dance with someone in a while especially since she was moving around so much. But now she was going to dance with such a cute guy and that didn't hurt at all. But she hopes it wasn't some techno song that was playing. She hated those but she danced either way. "Are you a good dancer?" She asked curiously as they left as headed to the dance floor.
