I just wanted to say, if your library already has a book listed here, it also helps the author if you go check out that books. Books need to be checked out often or they will be eventually removed from the library. It's important to KEEP a book on the shelves once it's there.

Why?

1. Books checked out often build a readership / audience for the author. If the library sees that audience then they will be more likely to purchase other books by that author in the future.

2. Books checked out often stay in the library until they wear out. Sad but true fact, books in very good condition are removed from the library on a regular basis - if no one checks them out their time is up. This is a book that can't be discovered by future readers. And this author might have a harder time getting into that library again.

3. Checking out books by our authors here might just turn into your favorite new book. By actually reading the books that are requested here you never know what you will find. How exciting is that?

So yes! You can still make an impact if the book you're looking for is already there!

J. Richards (jchrisr) | 1 comments In the Douglas County Library, any book not checked out over a 1 year period is automatically removed from the shelves and put in the book sale area. Even if you have read the book, if you check it out for a few days and return it, you can keep the book on the shelf.

Cheryl | 6 comments Chris--Are you talking about Douglas County in Oregon? If so, I'm in SW Washington now, but grew up in Medford and actually visited 6 schools this spring! I let everyone to know they could request the books at their local library, so hopefully Jackson County carries them!

Aloha! --Cheryl
