What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

It is about a girl who people don't pay any attention to, and she starts to disappear. At one point her mother has company over, and I think she is sat on and somehow ends up in the womans purse. I think she starts to live in the walls, and there may be a mask involved. It very dreamlike in the style it's written in. The girl is noticed less and less throughout the book. That is all I remember.

My first guess would be Displaced Person by Lee Harding, but that character is a boy. I think this might be The Woman in the Wall by Patrice Kindl.

I've recently read The Woman in the Wall and the purse scene is very memorable. I'd be willing to bet this is right.
