I think that poetry is very interesting. It definitely isn't worthless or wasting time, but since some people might find it to be, maybe it should be offered more as an elective than a core subject?

True...maybe a good poetry unit in English classes and then an elective?

Well, that's true. So I'll say that I think that poetry should be taught in school...NOT teaching it in school would be a shame.

✿.Ⓐⓟⓞⓞⓡⓥⓐ.✿ (apoorvak) | 87 comments I don't think writing poetry should be taught. Poetry itself should be, but the point of poetry is not to do it in certain ways. It is to express yourself. When it's taught, it becomes that much harder to truly leave a piece of yourself in each poem.

I didn't even think of it that way...I took it to mean reading and interpretating poetry.

I agree with Apoorva then. Writing poetry should be encouraged and allowed but not taught.

Elaney I cannot write poetry. I do not enjoy poetry, either. However, I am glad I am being taught it, because I believe it is something I should learn.

Faye (asdfayeiouvwxyz) | 269 comments It should be taught. I like hearing poetries, it would be nice to even have something like Dead Poets subject.
