I remember sitting in a movie theater, waiting to see Iron Man 2, and reading by the dim lights Mark Bowden's incredible chronicle Black Hawk Down. At that moment I realized I couldn't remember the last time I had been so engrossed, so enthralled, and so invested in a book that I truly felt like I couldn't put it down. I was surprised that Black Hawk Down would be the book, but it was a 'page-turner' in the truest sense of the word.

Black Hawk Down was one of them. Also Stephen Ambrose's, D-Day.

The whole series The Legend of the Ice People, by Margit Sandemo, I read the first 28 in less than a month and then had to wait 2 months for each of the remaining 19 books to be published and the day they were published was the day I had read them.

if you liked black hawk down, I would recommend Breakout: The Chosin Reservoir Campaign, Korea 1950. I couldn't put it down.

If you like Bowden, then I suggest Guests of the Ayatollah: The First Battle in America's War With Militant Islam. Much longer than "Blackhawk Down" but a fascinating read about the Iran Hostage Crisis.

The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 by Lawrence Wright & Power Down by Ben Coes is a recent fiction favorite which I also found difficult to put down.
