I'm changing it to a 2.5. I've re-read a few parts and seemed to like them a little better the second go around. I found it was okay for a short while, then I was frustrated with the characters, with the plot etc., then it would get a little better again.
I gave it a three. I loved how campy it was and the feminist message, but I wish some of the characters had gone outside of their message-driven plots.
Just finished. Gave a 3.5 for the story, but I'd give it a 5 for the performance by Bray. I was behind in reading, so I decided to listen to it, because I am in the midst of working on a massive macrame project. Literally sitting and tying knots for hours at a time. Listening to the book was really entertaining, especially because Bray did the reading, so I knew she got the characters (and she is excellent at many different accents!).
My libraries here didn't have it on audio. Believe me, I looked. Probably would have enjoyed it more. I downloaded it onto my Kindle and used the voice feature which is better than nothing, or I NEVER would have finished. Are you making a pot holder....I love macrame, it is such an enjoyable art form. How is school going for you. Are you going to continue in the fall? If so, what kind of classes are you planning on taking?
I had an ah-ha moment this morning when I read Cheryl's comment. It seems to me that you ladies that have had exposure and experience with beauty queens enjoy this type of writing more than someone like me that has had none. I've enjoyed reading about your personal experiences, has made it more interesting to think about!
