Well, I'll try to answer my own question. I loved how Bray didn't portray two pent-up lesbians who finally find each other and all is well. Instead, she has the one (crap, was it Sosie? or Jennifer?) mostly experiment a little, get to know herself better, and not get labeled and pigeon-holed. I also really like that they didn't have an idealized relationship. I majored in women's studies, so I've read my fair share of gay and lesbian lit, and there's often a tendency in books to idealize such relationships as perfect, when really, you're still dealing with the challenges and dynamics that close relationships entail.
In short, I think what Bray is doing is, as Lily from How I Met Your Mother put it, conveying that "sometimes women's sexuality is a moving target."
