Cause it says God molded Adam from clay, you could make that case that it's a metaphor for the theory that we evolved from creatures that began in the ground.
And the bible says God spoke the universe into existence; ie, a 'big bang'.... Not saying I believe those things, but I've heard them argued before.

Its just excuses for people that refuse to believe in God. As for John's mom's case, I have no idea....
I don't understand how people can believe in evolution when it'sso clear (to me anyway) that there's a creator. Animals, plants, and even us humans are much too complex to just have "evolved".

She is a weird woman.
She is a weird woman.
Besides, scientists can't even agree on any of that stuff and they have no solid proof, so why should anybody believe them?
Well, like I had said. They do because they refuse to believe in God.

Not quite. It's just like with homosexuality. People are bending the scripture to fit their world view. They believe in evolution, so they try to make it fit with the bible, so they can have their cake and eat it too.

Yup. It makes me sick how much people twist the scriptures.

Followers of Jesus don't accept science because they know better. Scientists are very intelligent, but intelligence can't get you to heaven. God created the world, as it states in Genesis 1:1-311 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Evolution is a lie. God created animals how they are. When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, they crossed the Red Sea. God parted the waters for them, they walked on the sea bottom on dry land. When the Egyptian army with their chariots tried to follow, God let the water down on them and they drowned. Now, thousands of years later, they found chariot wheels at the bottom of the Red Sea.
Followers of God don't accept some science because they know better. They have something better to believe: the greatness of God.
Allow me to quote my mother again "genesis is a metaphor for the Big Bang."
The Bible says to obey your father and mother, but......wow, you might want to avoid listening to your mom about this......wow......
That is excatly what I'm doing.

She kind of formulated it herself.

I just basically just sit there awkwardly whenever religion comes up.

Oh, of course I believe in science completely too, just not evolution or that the earth is "millions" of years old. I think God created science just so the curious non-believers wouldn't spend all their time trying to figure out the world. He even left some things a mystery-like how monarch butterflies know where to migrate and where space ends.
Paigetwo wrote: "Its the human flesh that makes us wonder.""It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a thing.." (Proverbs 25:2, Amplified Version)
I don't think it's the flesh that makes us curious, per say, but God gave us a curiosity to learn about the world around us. It's all part of the beauty of wondering at His creation and giving Him the glory for His works, because each thing we discover scientifically can be a spiritual lesson as well.
As for evolution... There is no way you can convince me that it's anything more than a hypothesis –– an educated guess.

Yeah, I won't buy "it's a proven fact!". I'm just never gonna buy it.

You and I are in agreement.
You and I are in agreement.
In terms of the Genesis=the Big Bang metaphor that John's mom mentioned, my guess is that she's combined a whole bunch of different opinions.
Basically, there are some who believe that God could have used a "big Bang" to create the world - note: this is different than what evolutionists say. Basically, they're just saying that when God says, "Let there be light", there could've been a "Big Bang".
In all reality, that's quite possible. Although really, it doesn't matter. Whether God used a big bang to create the universe or whether light simply seeped out into the world, who cares. The real issue isn't the idea of the Big Bang. The real issue is that it's scientifically impossible for something to come out of nothing. It takes a LOT more faith to believe that an explosion of nothing create the entire universe - note: just so you know, when people stary saying anything about "there was some sort of explosive gas in the atmosphere" or "2 rocks hit each other and created a spark" (that one was taught to me in school, lol), stop the person and ask them "where did the gas, the atmosphere, the rocks come from? Where did the very physics behind an explosion originate?" There has to be some sort of starting point for everything, so if gas and rocks created the Big Bang, who created them?
So yes, it takes a lot more faith to believe in something coming from nothing than to believe in a God. We're the rational ones here ;)
Hope this helps!

I'm sorry to intrude, and am careful to here show caution. I realise this is a discussion betwixt theists on an atheistic theory. I wondered if you would find an educated alternate viewpoint helpful or stimulating. I won't try to convert you away from your faith, only to help you understand what evolution is, why it is such an accepted fact, and what evidence we have for it. I could also go into other issues such as the origins of the universe, ie the Big Bang theory. But, if I am truly out of line, I shall delete this comment, leave the group and speak no more. Thank you for your time.

Hey, nice name ;)
Nah, you're not out of line. This group's a safe place to discuss whatever. I'm not saying there won't be disagreements, but we mods will work hard to keep them civil.

Ok then. For a start, I'd like to clarify that the Big Bang was neither 'Big' or a 'Bang'. At the beginning of the universe, there were no opposing forces to gravity, so, inevitably, everything had attracted together into a single mass, and contracted, and collapsed, and a ridiculously large amount of pressure built up in this mass. This eventually caused what we know describe as the Big Bang. Everything flew outwards from that small point. And, contrary to belief, there was very little in that everything. Everything consisted of nothing. At the moment of the Big Bang, the universe had no mass, merely energy. But, of course, mass and energy are states that can interchange (energy = mass x the speed of light squared). So, because of thii massive amount of energy, the early universe was very hot. But it was cooling down. In a matter of seconds it cooled down enough to form quarks, what we know to be inside sub-atomic particles. Later, nuetrons and electrons formed. Then protons. Then, inevitably in the chaotic universe - such as it was - nuclei formed. Specifically hydrogen nuclei, and these attracted electrons to be just hydrogen. This is hypothetically enough of an explanation for now. Thank you.

Hell what was that rant all about?!! Why didn't you tie up the thread by posting the entire Old Testement?
It's easy to believe in God and evolution since God controls evolution, therefore it exist.
Joe- One question. How can "everything consist of nothing"? Energy is not "nothing," and it has to have a source –– and please explain how energy can change into mass (I believe that's what you're implying?). Mathematical formulas mean nothing to me.
@Joe: what you're suggesting is taking more out than was put in, which according to the accepted laws of physics is impossible.
